If Subaru decides to go the forced induction route and turbo the BRZ, I have a very hard time believing that Toyota would incur the addtional costs of the R&D and certification of an alternate scheme, ie, supercharging.

Its scion's slogan to be affordable though right?

By making it 24.2k (or 24.9k) the cost of the BRZ would be around (about if you include what this thread's original intentions are) 25k.

I'm not sure what scion is doing but subaru can't push the BRZ too high since it'll effect WRX sales.

I just feel like Scion is similar to the guy in the group of people who screws it up for the others. Lol Not trying to pull anything silly with you.

25K is realistic in today's market and affordable for their target market, which is maybe not what we think it is anymore...why...because that 28-38 year old has more disposable income...and maybe that's the market they want.
Even with this current economy?!?

25k sounds like its really pushing it.

Yes $23k would have been better... Not only because less is better, but because it feels to me that, $22k-$23k is what the FR-S is really worth

imho

Brz sales aren't going to have a significant effect on wrx sales. The cars are too different to cannibalize each other that much. Besides whatever sales the wrx loses to the brz it will more than make up for in peple who come into the dealer to look at a brz and realize it is just too impractical for them and leave with a similarly priced wrx.

Your original question about th ideal price doesn't have an answer. Ideal price for who? Ideal for me is they sell the car for 15k and take a loss like they do on the lfa but that isn't going to happen.

After toyota decided to build a rwd coupe the first thing that was determined was how much it was going to cost. Every decision about the car after that was made to hit that number. When you look at other cars that areavailable for that price range, the frs provides good value.

What do you think Scions target age demographic is for this specific car?
They already have models that are less and affordable to the younger crowd. Now they have a spanking new, sweet new sports car, and they are planing to expand the brand to a demographic that has more income to spend. I could be way off on this, but based on the price that they just released, one of a few things are true:

1. I'm right...or...
2. Scion believes that thier current target demographic is both young and stupid, because they will go into more debt to get this car.
3. Affordable was a marketing buzz word to keep your interest, but the reality is they could not turn the profit they wanted selling it for 23K.

The source is probably Subaru's displays at the North American International Auto Show and other large auto shows where they stated they wanted the BRZ to start at 25K.

I still expect it to bubble upwards a little. But the fact that Subaru wants to price it around 25K is not new info.

Yeah I'm going with #2. That's how I see it.

The current economy doesn't really have a huge impact on this car. The economy is down but that doesn't make things cheaper it just means that there are less people out there that can afford them. Other than housing prices, which is what caused the economy to collapse, what else is cheaper now than it used to be?

The car is a toy and the price range fits just fine with those people who can afford such a luxury.

The author is one of their main automotive journalists. I'm sure he has a few connections to get info from. The reason the article is showing up today is because he probably called said contact in response to scion releasing the price.

Besides there wouldn't be any information at the autoshow about a turbo v ersion and a major paper like this isn't going to put a line in there about a turbo without a reliable source. That is the difference between some guy hosting a website and speculating and being a print journalist. Id love to know the source too but I doubt we will ever find out.

I would've bought the 86 over the BRZ but not the FRS over the BRZ. I'm probably not alone. ( 86>BRZ>FRS )

I totally agree. When I heard it was going to be a Scion I had a bad feeling, but was hoping for the best. Then I find out the FRS is a just a dolled up base 86 with a crap Scion head unit, no leather, no HID, no push button etc etc (I loved the 86 exactly how it was at the reveal, and yes toyota I would have liked to have the "option" to have that car as a loyal toyota owner, no one said you couldn't sell both trims). But I got over it after I saw the BRZ in person. The BRZ is everything I wanted minus some minor details. Now, I'm hearing the BRZ might be closer to the FRS in price. I hope it's true. Also, seeing how the FRS is a Scion I am quite sure a fully optioned one will cost close to what a fully loaded BRZ would be. Personally, I'm going for the BRZ. I'm sure some will go for the FRS and thats perfectly fine, but that pricing for a scion just doesn't seem right especially if these BRZ rumors are true. This just seems like a bad business decision on toyota's part. Just kill of scion already toyota, they're going to mess everything up.

haha, this makes no sense...

anyway, i hope the official announcement is soon, so that i can cancel my pre-orders if the limited is more than $27k...

i'm guessing we should definitely find out by the end of the month...

The reason I question the source cited in the article is because the article seems carefully worded to imply that the "source" made a statement reacting to the Scion news, but if you read between the lines, the reporter never actually explicitly says that. It just says that "Subaru sources have said" they wanted the car around 25000 in the past, and Subaru has already announced a turbo version of the BRZ engine. It seems this is just a re-hash of past rumors.
