I'd take an installed warranty compliant oem+ turbo over a new car...it'd need to be the same or less than aftermarket and I'm there the day they can be ordered.

$40k LOL no....

WRX is like ~$7k over base Impreza and is a lot more than just the turbo, the Mazdaspeed3 only about $5k extra. Realistically we're talking ~$32k for a factory turbo FR-S

Changing the current GT86/BRZ engine right now would piss off a lot of people who already made purchase on this already amazing machine. It does not make sense from a marketing perspective as these cars are already selling really well. I would say give it 5 years or never. Maybe the next gen will get a slight power increase and body style changes. I sure hope they don't change the body as it is already pretty much perfection.

That said, Subaru and Toyota may just skip supercharger/turbo and keep it around $31K and you get things like better tires, air intake, better exhaust, better suspension (sway bars), tuned ECU, etc. Maybe a 20-30hp increase at most. But still "faster".
Like an FR-S GTS version with extra HP...

Agreed and as many have stated before the GT86 was not meant to be a high HP car. If you want more power it will probably have to be through aftermarket upgrades. It would be nice if a factory warranted Toyota/Subaru Turbo kit was released. This would probably be the answer to peoples' horsepower needs
