Personally, I don't care. But having done dyno pulls on two identical cars, one MT and the other AT there were hardly any discernable differences in the numbers. You could say your butt dyno could tell, but the numbers hardly could point out the differences. There could be more differences in a bad AT, but unless you're talking about a car from Detroit, AT's are no slouches these days. I got a dose of this driving my co-workers wife's new Toyota Camry SE. The AT in that family hauler is no slouch and it's not remotely a sports car or even a sporty one. Other than the poser slap on body kits/etc.

well i guess that answer my question. I've read through the other thread to, but i guess you can't really get an opinion it really just if you dont go MT on <insert sport car here> we'll flame you until you get one. There were 3-4 helpful post, but the rest was pretty much get Manual or get flamed. Probably why i couldn't get anything out of the other bajillion mt vs auto threads.

I ordered a Dark Grey Metallic Limited AT, because that is what I wanted. The two will be identical with nearly identical numbers. So get whatever you want, in the end, you will have a pretty freaking awesome car and that is all that matters!

I believe that some people wouldn't mind buying the AT but are kind of afraid of not being socially accepted by the hardcore MT guys. At the end of the day, the people that will flame or talk down on you probably didn't help you buy your car. Nor will they be helping with your car payments. So do whatever you want and don't worry about what the next man thinks. If you are having doubts, test drive both. Even if you have to wait a while to get your car. Just do whats right for you. :happy0180:

Test drive an auto, then buy a manual. That's what I did since I didn't know how to drive a 6 speed manual when I bought my car!

But back to the op's question at or mt? Me personally i'd only go for the mt. Its what ive been driving ever since i got my license. No shame in getting an at, but if you're worried about being bummed out cuz you didnt get the mt at first then why not get the mt? If you cant drive it at first get a friend you really trust that knows how to drive mt or one of the salesmen might drive it for you? Just an idea. |

I recently joined a drift training, the course cars where BMW M3 with the automated double clutch gearbox DKG. If the drift angle got too wide it turned out to be difficult to catch the car's back by interrupting the drift - as you do not have control about the clutch. You can do nothing but lift the throttle. (However, I should mention, that the strange type of LSD in the M3 and maybe the tires may play a roll here, too.) So coming back to the question asked in by the author of this thread: Quote:
- Easily interrupt a drift by pressing the clutch - By rev matching you control to avoid sudden engine brake torque causing the rear axle to loose grip in a corner, while shifting - Prepare for a drift on snow by pulling the e-brake - which requires to press the clutch pedal) - Have fun with double-clutching, rev-matching and all these sophisticated driving techniques. |
