cars101.com (a subaru dealer's website) says 540/month for the first 7 months.

http://www.cars101.com/subaru/brz/brz2013.html

Quote:
BRZ NEWS, UPDATES AND RUMORS
Expected at dealers May 2012.

soon- 3/1/12- Orders should be available starting March first. Each dealer will only get a few cars per month, maybe 1-4?

2/2812 BRZ order process. Each dealer has been given a fixed number of BRZs over the next 7 months (May-Nov 2012) which will be spread out so they don't all arrive at one time. Extra orders in addition to the allotted number of cars may or may not get filled. The monthly total for the entire country is expected to be 540 cars and there are over 600 dealers so not all dealers will get a car each month. There is no VIP program available on the BRZ.

from Subaru of America
"It is important dealers fully understand the order filling process as you submit your sold orders.

In summary, allocations for the 7 months May-November have been developed for each dealer. Fulfillment of a dealer’s allocation quantity will be spread basically pro-rata over the 7-month period and will not accelerate based on the number of sold orders submitted nor will it be reduced based on the number of sold orders other dealers submit.

The most important factor is for individual dealers to ensure their sold orders are submitted in the order with which they want them filled. SOA will look to fill the oldest sold order within a dealer’s allocation from the pool of cars available irrespective of when that order came in versus any other dealer’s order."
Sounds like if you are at a smaller dealer you may be in for a wait. In other words if your dealership was allocated 2, that just means they will get 2 between now and November. There is no telling when in that time frame they will actually come.

that's Joe Spitz's site, it's not an official dealer's endorsed site. He is the online sales guy at Carter subaru in shoreline WA... they are getting 20 cars. Smart guy... easy to work with.

5500 a year? That means no test drives for anyone. This will also make a use model as pricey as a new model.

eh? why you think that? the audi dealer let me test drive an S4, dont see why i cant test drive a mid 20k sport coupe. same deal with the 370z. a lot of it has to do with how you carry yourself when you show up and their impression of whether you are serious or not. also helps to pull up in a nice car.

oh and to your second point, i wouldnt expect there to be well priced used ones until the mid cycle refreshes start.

If they're all pre-sold with deposits the dealers won't have anything on the lot for you to test drive. Of course if you're among us who have placed a deposit then I'm sure you'll be able to test drive the car before you buy it. My dealer better not be letting everyone and their grandmother test drive my car before I pick it up.

The S4's and the 370z's sitting on lots right now aren't pre sold to customers.

I'm going to be extremely anal about this.. I plan to give my dealer very explicit instructions that nobody is to touch my car except the service technicians who have to do the PDI. They are required to take a short test drive, so I'm going to insist that it is a responsible tech (not some 20 year old) and that it's a very short drive.

I'm going to ask that the car remain locked when on the dealership grounds.. I don't want them inviting 200 people to go ahead and sit in the car and test it out and poke around.. I don't want some smelly sweaty old creep sitting in my car and farting in the seat.. that's my job!

My dealer is going to hate me by the time I pick up this car.

If you are concerned about ^, then when you preorder you should stipulate that the car will have no more than 10 miles on it when you purchase.

by nature a pre order would be picked up very quickly after its delivered. they dont put pre-orders "on the lot". it stays in the back and gets prepped and you generally pick it up immediately. i was obviously referring to ones that are in inventory, and also not in the middle of the showroom as well (display model).

there won't be any in inventory until at least next year. If you want to test drive one, you should go put down a deposit and make sure you tell them you want to test drive before you decide to buy. When it comes in, if you test drive it and decide you don't want it, they will go to the next person in line, it won't go out on the lot. With each dealer only getting a handful between now and November you will never find one on a lot just waiting for someone to test drive it. If a dealer gets one that isn't presold they will ship it to another dealer that has a waiting list. Even if you manage to find some kind of demo unit to test drive, if you aren't part of the initial allocation you won't get your order until at least November, probably a lot later.

Spot on...nobody will be showing up at the dealer and buying one off the lot for quite some time.

Why is it so hard to believe people are depositing without a test drive? Im sure many are in the same situation as me; coming from a bland econo box and the closest thing to what we want is a miata or genesis.

Any sporty car will really be an improvement but the info out on this car makes it seem ideal. 500 to get the spec you want ordered and be one of the first to get it isnt a big deal since you can change your mind.

If you already drive a sports car then it makes sense to need a test drive first but not everyone is in the same situation.
