As per my question earlier about the TV antenna. THIS
is what i went with. At first i thought i needed an adapter because it didn't seem to fit in the receiver(phrasing?), but i just didn't push hard enough. I haven't tested it beyond getting some barely recognizable static in my garage, but atleast it picked something up. I'll update after a few days. |

i just got mine in yesterday and wired it all up, but im having an issue getting the black trim piece snap back in to place around the HU. it doesnt seem to have enough space to fit it anymore. Anyone have any tips to get it back on?
Note: ive tried with and without the metra dash kit and same problem, it just seems to not fit over the HU |

I had the same problem - you need to angle the radio correctly by bending the metal brackets for it to fit. It's a bit of a pain getting it perfect.

any tips on doing so? i tried bending them a little bit, but it didnt help.
It seems that the head unit needs to be further recessed than the stock brackets will allow it to be. I tried just setting it in the dash, and putting the trim piece on, and the end result had the head unit sitting further back than it does when i have it bolted down. I cant seem to find a way to bend them that would accomplish this. Also, for 2forme, or anyone else who has this unit, theres a couple things im trying to wrap my head around. 1. When watching a dvd, is there any way to set the view mode to full screen rather than the widescreen w/letterboxes? I can zoom in with the remote, but it leaves a prompt on screen that says zoom 2x that i cant get rid of. 2. Where do you guys have the GPS antenna mounted? I put mine on the metal dash bar that runs across the inside of the dashboard, but im not sure if this is an optimal location. Id like it to be on top of the dash in the center by the defrost vents, but i cant find a way to route the wire. 3. Are there any alternative apps to run ipods? The stock one doesnt allow folder stacking like "artist>album>song" it just goes "artist>song" or "album>song" A minor inconvenience, but one that id like to figure out regardless. 4. When i turn the car off, my ipod doesnt stop playing. On the fr-s stock HU, it cut off and resumed my music at the same location when it came back on. This one will have played the whole album if the car was off long enough. Any fix for that? I know its a lot lol, but im trying to get everything on this working as perfectly as possible. |

I've had a couple of different units in my car, each requiring different mods, but this is what I've done to date:
-Flattened the top of the bracket in a bench vice -Drilled the holes out slightly to give it more movement From there it's just a lot of trial & error with the angle of the brackets on the radio and pushing the tabs in and out until it fits just right. As for the GPS, my radio is not exactly the same but I've got it under the dash and reception seems to be good.

I just shaved off the plastic rim around the head unit itself. Dremel works wonders. That way I didn't have to modify the brackets or stock trim piece.
It's only really the top and bottom. But I did the sides to for shits and giggles. |

I've had good results using longer screws and stacking tight rubber grommets over the screws after they've been threaded through the mounting bracket.

I'm going to be trying to design an iPod reader app myself. I think I also have a copy of the ca fi one too. Its a bit nicer but I don't know if it works yet.
