The suspension/tires/brakes (pads) on this FT86 race car will not be the same as on the production version of the FR-S.

Also, I hope everyone going "this can't beat a Civic?!" and "it's faster than an S2000!" realizes that these aren't off the production line cars...none of them. Yes, the SP classes use production based cars and have a limited modification rule set, but they are still able to work the motors a bit. While the S2000, Civic TR, and FT86 are all in the same class (SP3 for this race) the S2K and CTR are probably more well sorted and better prepped than the FT86--it's not even really in production yet, after all.

There really is very little you can take away from this to apply to real world, production based street cars or even e-bench racing/production cars.
Thank you very much.

I wonder why they didn't use the full body kit.

Because it creates additional drag and adds weight, which would slow them down.

In that picture it looks like the FT has like 2 times the ground clearance as the Aston? behind it. The car is very short but the proportion of ground clearance to height looks the same as your typical Honda Accord or something....reinforces the hypothesis that this is basically stock + cage/jack/etc.

I personally dont think that there is much to be taken from this new information negatively. The amount of speculation and e-fighting going on here is enough to have you believe half these people thought the world was going to end a couple months back...

The only thing we know for certain is the car took place in the race.
no specs,no mod list nothing to give speculation any grounds.. except people are really pissy about waiting and that over half of the people on here will most likely not even buy the car. Fanboys...

As far as my take from all of this, I am happy they even competed in this race, put up half decent times and that we have new pictures and some possible future, of a new racing heritage....All this from a fuel efficient, safety rating, boring and "previously" absent company from anything thats actually a full blown drivers focused and track engineered sports car.

This picture shows they didn't even use the factory holes for the roll cage...

Why not?

Are the holes in the wrong spot for supporting this car in a crash?

It's probably a couple of factors...not the actual production dash board and also the cage location requirements as required by the sanctioning body.

Er . . . I hope the production car is lower to the ground that that car. If not, then what's all the fuss about CofG? You throw a low CofG away at that height.

umm cog is where most of the weight is the car can be riased like a 4x4 and still have a very low cog if all the weight is down low

ride height plays a part but is not the end all be all and besides there the aftermarket for those who want low low and hellaflush

Also, it looks like the openings in the corner of that dash are really just where the a pillar panels go and not a space designed for a rollcage as mentioned in those interviews.

Marrk think of it this way, if it's got the "lowest CoG of any mass produced car" and it's still that tall, what happens when you drop it an inch or so...

This thing has a pretty serious-looking cage, too. More stuff like that crazy gusset in the front, than a typical 6-pointer.
