That's the first thing I noticed. The section of console directly in front of the shifter seems similar as well. at least half way down.

The civic is almost 5 year old and FWD, so would think the FT would be closer than 1 minute. but its ok i guess.

I think the drivers don't get used to driving around the ring yet, that's why. Anyway, Civic type R can even beat S2K by almost a minute too, so reason lies behind the civic.

Ok then! If its on par with an S-2000 then it should be fun.
One thing is for sure, the car looks Gorgeous! Cant wait to see it without camo.

So it looks like the FN2 beat the FNG FTL!

The specs seem very close too

"The drive train is largely the same as the out going model offering 201 PS (148 kW; 198 hp) at 7,500 rpm and 193 N·m (142 lb·ft) of torque at 5,600 rpm. It runs on 225/40 R18 Y88 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres, while optional 19" Rage alloys run on Yokohama Advan Sport 225/35 ZR19 88Y tyres. The car has a curb weight of 1,267 kg (2,790 lb)."

I just noticed, the accelerator pedal has a lateral "extension" towards the brake pedal to facilitate heel & toe... that`s a nice touch!

Thinking about the first picture in this thread and other shots of the interior of the car: Do you suppose it's possible that the engine and tranny are mounted far enough rearward so that the gearbox is part of the tranny and is mechanically actuated with rods or something, rather than cable actuated?

It's cool that we might be able to infer some details about the production FR-S from this FT86 race car...but remember this is a race car...so there is no telling if Toyota used the actual interior pieces for the door skins, dash, or any other components. The suspension/tires/brakes (pads) on this FT86 race car will not be the same as on the production version of the FR-S.

Also, I hope everyone going "this can't beat a Civic?!" and "it's faster than an S2000!" realizes that these aren't off the production line cars...none of them. Yes, the SP classes use production based cars and have a limited modification rule set, but they are still able to work the motors a bit. While the S2000, Civic TR, and FT86 are all in the same class (SP3 for this race) the S2K and CTR are probably more well sorted and better prepped than the FT86--it's not even really in production yet, after all.

There really is very little you can take away from this to apply to real world, production based street cars or even e-bench racing/production cars.

Well there's no huge plastic contraption to hold cables in the cable of the car, so that's a good first step. We can't see what's in the tunnel though so we can't really tell for sure.

I really hope the shifter goes straight into the trans though.
