Any further solutions to this problem? I've noticed this problem every now and then. It first started when I was only at 350 miles, so either the first 28 miles of random people test driving it before I bought it really tore up the clutch or something may be a little faulty.

My FR-S is completely stock and I haven't adjusted the clutch or anything.

Same issue here ... easiest way to replicate is drive in 3rd or 4th gear around 3K and then down shift and smoothly come off the clutch while accelerating slightly and you'll hear it ... the more gas you give as you slip in the clutch the more you'll hear it. Time will tell if this is normal or indicative of a larger issue ... ie. clutches prematurely wearing out.

Cheers,

I hate to bump an old thread, but I've recently started to get this exact same noise!

It only started happening yesterday.. And I recently hit 40000 km.. no mods to car.

These are the conditions I've noticed it in:
-4th, 5th, or 6th gear
-only when clutch is FULLY engaged.
-whinning or whurring noise is mostly noticable over 3k rpms.
-I can increase the whurring noise if i lightly touch the gas pedal (minimal increase in speed, so it seems like an increase in load on the clutch is enough to boost the noise)

It worries me since the noise has never been around for the last 40000 km.. this is also the second time driving in winter with the winter tires, so I know it ain't the tires... ):

Nearest dealer is 2hrs away in london Canada to get it checked... lucky me...

According to this thread, solutions include:
-change the oil
-and shift better (lol)

What to do?

Having Same Issue with my 2014 Scion FRS

Recently bought a 2014 Scion FRS last Nov 2013.
I am experiencing the same issue as the rest of the folks here.
Some observations:
- It comes out audible for shifting to a higher gear than downshifting
- The sound is distinctly separate from the engine (rev) sound; more like a layer on its own.
- There seem to be a "precursor" sound that runs parallel/overlay to the engine rev sound when you are stepping on the gas/accelerator pedal. When you hear this "precursor" sound, you will definitely hear the humming noise when you push the clutch pedal in to shift.
- I have had a mechanic at the Toyota dealer here in Roseville test drive the car with me, and he says the sound is "nothing abnormal".
(Though if its a "normal" sound, why is it occurring intermittently? About 60-65% of the shifts ends up silent, 35-40% of the time this noise pops up. Normal is the "silent" shift.)

I am requesting for any updated info or suggestions as how to address this. Any of the BRZ folks having this issue as well? Any help in the right direction is highly appreciated!!!

Albert

I have this to at around 5000 rpm, and it's an automatic.

I would step on it until 5500 rpm and let engine braking does its stuff. Then I hear it.

Possible fix

I've been searching around because I have the same problem too. The video is about issues coming from a WRX Sti but just Watch the video.[ame="http://youtu.be/V1N2mHA3blQ"]http://youtu.be/V1N2mHA3blQ[/ame]

Um no, this is not our problem. our problem is when you slip the clutch. and is coming from the transmission. Not under the dash.

I've been driving m/t for more than 20 years, and I have more than 37,000 miles on my '13 BRZ. I've had this problem on and off for the last year.

I'd like to sign in at 21k miles and say that I've gotten this problem on my '13 BRZ.

For people that are not familiar with this problem, scroll to page one and watch the very first youtube video that OP posted.

Took it to the dealer as soon as I heard it, took the tech out for a drive, recreated the screech, got a loaner and inspection set up for this coming Thursday.

In case there are a couple of you guys out there, I'll let you know what I find out.

Mine has started doing this as well. I'm at almost 5k miles. It also has started to howl sometimes while driving around while in gear or not. I can't replicate it on demand so I don't know if its worth taking in yet.

i get it it on every shift regardless of RPM's. Been with me the whole 20k miles since new... i thought it was the clutch spring or pressure plate

I have the same problem.. but strangely it only happens at 1900rpm. I can replicate it even if its not in gear. Hold it at 1900 and it'll whoop all day. Also coincidently, does anyone notice that the engine "vibrates" noticibly ard 2000rpm? might be related?
