It's pretty common failure in general. I used to carry spare axels on wheelin trips for my Jeep. Oddly enough I never busted one, but it's Murphy's Law right?

I'll let you guys know what the field rep says tomorrow. Could go either way, some of these guys are probably idiots, and others very reasonable, we'll see.

Either way, I hope with the short week they can fix the car before this weekend! I have a two day AutoX!!!

One reason that driving a Porsche appeals to me greatly is that they embrace owners taking their cars to the track and their are almost always involved in the PCA track events. It's a rarity for an automaker to stand behind a product when it's used as intended. It is sad that such a thing isn't more common.
If you read ANY porsche owners manual, it clearly states that they do not cover damage caused from tracking your car. They may promote the PCA etc, but they do not have a universal "we'll cover damage caused from tracking or modifying your car".

So let me get this straight, you want Subaru to cover your broken axle, when you clearly launch your car at auto-x, your car is lowered, and you have a "build thread" on here? This you realize does not mean Subaru is paying, it means that the rest of the owners of future Subarus are helping pay because they just turn around and build in your repair costs into future sales prices...

I'm all for hammering dealers or SOA if they are denying a warranty claim for something that is unrelated to the mods done, but axles going on a lowered, auto-xed, launched car are kind of related... man up on it

Simmons went through this already, I think he said it was $300 for a new axle? He didn't even bother trying to get warranty coverage on it.

Magic 8 ball says you are going to have to pony up some cash to fix your car.

I wouldn't expect them to cover it but CERTAINLY have a dealer rep take a look at it to make sure there were no defects in the axle. Do it for all of our sakes.

I have 273 Autocross runs on my frs over two seasons. No track days. And 13k miles. I have to brake torque the wheels to spin them just to launch. I have had no issues of yet. Knocking wood as we speak.

Woah there buddy! turn the intensity down like 7 notches! I am just HOPING they will pay, I'm gonna do what I can to make that happen, and they might. If you're going to build a car and put ads on TV of it sliding around you've gotta expect people are going to drive it hard, maybe they'll warranty it. But trust me, I understand I beat the shit out of my car!

Regardless who's paying for it I want it back for AutoX this weekend!!!

Plus I have a FR-S which means I'm dealing with Toyota not Subaru.

I will also add that I have probably as many runs on my car (if not more), including 2 ProSolos, both with three drivers. I'm at 29k miles. No broken axles.

Of course, it could break on my way home from work today, but that's the risk you take when racing the car - stuff is going to break.

Very interesting. We're driving Subarus and Scions. What about our manuals?

If a part is garbage, it doesn't matter how you break it. Every one of our cars is getting "launched" and that's where axles break. Manufacturers advertise 0-60 times and horsepower and torque. You're allowed to use them.

Nissan already went through this. Guess what? Launching is not grounds for voiding warranty.

Competition use, however, aka Autocross, is.

It may be as much an issue with lowering as it is launching. Or it could be a combination of the two. We have had some issues with MR2 Spyders that are lowered causing bind in the CV joints. Combining that with a hard launch sometimes breaks the axles. Are the ones on the FT-86 breaking the actual axle as in shearing off the spline or are they breaking at the joints?
