I'm thinking the V8 in the M3 (S65). 440 hp at 8300 rpm. Yes please.

That would most certainly do the trick!

Whats the weight difference between the 5.0L S/C V8 model and the 3.0L S/C V6? Can't find much on it...

Can't wait to see the F-type on the road, such an interesting car with two very good engine choices...not so sure about the 8 speed automatic though.

I wasn't able to find any engine weight numbers, but the weight difference between the V6 F-Type and the V8 F-Type is 150 lbs (3,520 vs. 3,670). Both engine choices are fantastic, and the car should come with a manual trans option.

Mazda's 4.0l W12 -- This engine was shown at the 1989 Tokyo motor and was intended for Mazda's Amati luxury brand that never materialized. The engine was limited to 280hp and 274lb-ft of torque because of the Japan's gentleman's agreement, but keeping in tradition of Mazda's unique engine design history (rotary, Miller cycle, etc) they decided to go with the W-configuration for their 12 cylinder. While the block is aluminum, the rest of the engine is mostly magnesium. Arguably the most interesting design feature were the ceramic cylinders and aluminum-ceramic valves. Very ground breaking for the time.

True, but how easy are they to adapt to a RWD configuration?

Well F20/22c are from S2000 so its already rwd. K20/24 swaps have been done in S2000 also so it is possible.

I do like the idea of using an F1 motor though. Personally, I would detune the motor to around 500-600hp and have it redline at 8,000-9,000rpm.

I love the 4g63 as well. Great engine.

But I was thinking something more along the lines of this V12....

Or maybe the engine outta one of these!

I take it back.... ultimate power and ultimate efficiency with this bad boy!

Quote:
Designed to provide the motive force for a variety of supertankers and container ships, it comes in 6 cylinder in-line through to a whopping 14 cylinder version. The cylinder bore is 38 inches and the stroke is just over 98 inches. Each cylinder displaces 111,143 cubic inches (1820 litres) and produces 7780 horsepower. Total displacement comes out to 1,556,002 cubic inches (25,480 litres) for the 14-cylinder version.

At a length of 89 feet and a height of 44 feet, the total engine weight is 2300 tons - the crankshaft alone weighs 300 tons.

The RTA96C-14 can achieve a maximum power output of 108,920 hp at 102 rpm and astonishingly, at maximum economy the engine exceeds 50% thermal efficiency. That means, more than 50% of the energy in the fuel is converted to motion. Its Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC) at maximum power is 0.278 lbs/hp/hr
