Plus the fact that @fredzy's 23 does it is an interesting data point. Hopefully he can make a video for us when he has time.
For those that shared logs, were you guys actually logging what the car was doing when blipping the throttle from idle, and has tomm looked at the behavior in that instant? Probably a lot different than the typical inspection of the params during a pull through the rev range.

I watched the clip of the DI seal pop, it is similar in a way. I don't think the same thing though. What mine does is very much the same as NFS's from this post, if a bit less prominent. Very instant with the throttle blip. I will make a video today

I'm bone stock so can't log or really do anything about it aside from asking for more current SW (something I did A LOT with my WRX - get latest OEM SW in hopes of making the car drive better lol.) I will watch the thread to see where it goes.

i did, there is nothing out of ordinary in those stationary blips from idle
there are though no misfire logged in those

I linked to Clipdat a stg1 91oct with a little modified transient table, i m curious if he feels something different with that when he gets a chance to try it

Will that tune work with any ecu? I saw that the OFT websites have multiple different tunes for different years.

Got a log with the stock tune reflashed and with misfires being recorded. Although I didn't see any misfires, even with the first throttle blip giving me the same knocking noise.

The CAL is ZA1JA00C

Was using the Stg-1-v4.03-LC-FSS-Z Tune provided by oft. Had to retrieve it online since it didn't autogenerate when plugging in the oft.

The first log I uploaded was of the Idle knocking noise. Logged with the video that's there.

Curious to see if Tomm's map helps, likely transposed transient ignition retard map from a newer ROM

not really 100% , it s just some removed retard at 800-1000rpm, and well some added retard at higher rpm like newer rom as it is safer

i m curious to see if they feel less bogging when stabbing at idle, as we can then blame the stock settings for it

here v2 stg1 91 oct with some transient mod

Stg1 A00C V2 91oct

it surely also more suited than stock tune if you only have access to 91oct
Do a proper flash: after flashing keep dash on/engine off and press accel pedal for 3-4 times slowly to 100% and release it slowly
then turn engine on and let idle for 2 minutes with no throttle

Awesome thanks! I'll get another log done once I have the tune updated.

while warming the engine driving around, try to go to 5000rpm with low throttle, if you keep it in closed loop while going up in rpm, it learns LTFT faster

Not sure where this was mentioned, but that has been an annoyance of mine since I got the car. Very difficult to blip just the right amount of throttle when heel-toeing. Almost always not enough, and then when I give it that little bit more its way too much. Bogging is a perfect word to describe it.

I thought it was just how the throttle is mapped, different from WRX and Corolla and I'll just have to get used to it. They were/are very easy to get the right amount of blip which is funny considering they're turbo (a turbo FA even!) and this is NA. And everyone says the GR86's throttle is too touchy.

I'll have a video in a little and then I actually think I'm gonna reset the ECU after a fresh tank of 93..

it s a mix of how throttle is mapped and some timers that trigger between closed loop and open loop, and some ignition retard
Blipping with clutch pressed for example you can notice it bogs even more

Best solution is to get a custom tune, many tuners get it right with the tune and mod the thottle and becomes more reactive and sensitive.. the downside is it feels like reduced travel from min to max, but not necessarily all the time

But realisticaly eventually most people like a reduced excursion of the pedal specially when it's Naturally aspirated
