My brother got his BRZ yesterday (I'm still waiting for mine to come in), and I played around with the settings on his car (LImited model). I made a few changes that I thought improved the sound a lot! Of course, sound is something that is very personal, so YMMV.
Here is what I changed from factory settings (using Satellite radio for source):
Bass: +2, Mid: +2, Treble: +3
Balance: 1 position towards rear
Virtual Stage Enhancer: Low

I've just tried the Midnightsky settings, but settled with Bass at 0, Mids at +2 and Treble at +6. Not too bad for a factory sports car system.

Worked decent with rock and better with deep house through a USB running 320 kbps mp3s.

Tried it and am surprised to say I agree. It's not as dramatic as Bose Centerpoint processing but it does a fine job of giving a bit more separation to everything which definitely helps in a small car with few speakers.

Hey Mike, just curious if you have heard any updates on this? I know they have the speaker upgrade for the 22+, but I'm going to want the full system like they have for the 1st Gen.

I use a Samsung S22 Ultra with mine (flat normal EQ) and have all special systems disabled and Bass +3, Mids -2, and Treble -4 from memory

Car's going back again for like the 8th time this week for most testing.

The system won't be released until it's got the pass from their internal testing, as well as some external feedback from myself and other enthusiasts.

Do you know what the cost was for the old speaker upgrade or do you have a link to the 1st Gen system?
