The OEM is never going to be able to make the gearing perfect for every racetrack. If they had that goal in mind 6th gear would max out at 130 and fist would max out at 50. It’s always a compromise when selecting ratios for a specific track much less trying to select them for ALL tracks.

Yeah, uber-tall top gear is annoying. I had to update my 3.1 240Z's 5-speed from a 280ZX box with 0.75:1 5th to an 80s truck 5-speed, which actually has the best overall ratios 2-5 for a compatible swap. 0.88:1 5th gear made *all* the difference at Watkins Glen and Mosport!

IMO the best way to solve the problem and keep both worlds balanced is just a lower final diff, possibly back to 4.1 with the increased power in the new gen. Would keep it very cost effective for them as well.

4.1 would be great. To be clear I'd be happy with 4.3 as well, but not likely. 3.9 would also be fine with me though, IMO that's a possibility...

But wait, in the same vein, shorter (numerically higher) gearing will *prevent* you from being able to downshift to a lower gear for some corners where you would be able to with taller gearing. On the same back road, some 3rd gear corners with (say) 4.56 gears will be 2nd gear corners with 4.1 gears. As with overall acceleration performance, here again, fun is *conserved*! I.e., given the same ratio spreads in the gearbox, shorter gearing doesn't necessarily mean "more shifting" spiritedly driving a given curvy road.

Yes, it's always a compromise. I like the trans and diff gearing on the 1st gens (4.1 and 4.3) a lot, I hope they do a similar job with the '22
