It's very tough to make a cheap car and low production. Tooling costs are hundreds of millions. No doubt the only way the FR-S is coming to market is due to the collaboration with Subaru making a sister car and sharing powertrain development. Toyota can shoot for a firm price point, but if it's too low they will end up forcing themselves to make a very stripped out and underdeveloped car. I don't think anyone here wants a rear drive Yaris with 140 HP [no offense to Yaris owners, but let's be honest here].
Honestly, that doesnt sound bad at all. There is that rumored baby ft86 with that coupe concept not too long ago

That is very true... I would NOT want to drive a RWD Yaris with 140HP. Its DANGEROUS. O_O Although the 140 ponies are nice to speed up. But.. seriously.. if you got hit in that thing (I did actually some fking SUV decided to not break at a red light) you'd be near death. O_O

Plus it has some understeering issues. And a huge tough-to-go-around blind spot. :l

Edit: Actually it wouldn't be too bad... ONLY if its a HBK though. :P Screw the Sedan~

I believe this weight is achievable. My accord sedan weighs under 3000 lbs, so I would think this thing could shave off at least 500 lbs. My car also has a lame 2.3L 148 hp engine, so some saved weight might really pay off.

Pass on the 140hp, even for $19k.

Not at all. You have absolutely ignored the probability that the FR-S will likely not benefit from the economies of scale your uncle enjoyed with his Mazda6.

It's like going to a local Amish furniture store and demanding Ikea pricing.

Whatever happened to the Advics big brake talk from the first concept? I think there is a better chance they will use them than Brembo.

I don't think they will use either. Far too expensive to keep this car sub-$25k

i didn't ignore it, i just wasn't agreeing with you in your statement saying that this will be like a miata production numbers. using analogies is a cheap way to try to get a point across. you're not even seeing it from my opinion. under 23k i expect it to be huge in production numbers and sell, over 25k expect to see what you're talking about. look how many new miatas are on the road now. thats my opinion, you can't tell me im wrong because blah blah this or blah blah that, because you don't have the facts. nobody here does (maybe ichi).

Feel free to provide evidence of past sports cars production numbers to support your theory of "huge in production numbers".

Advics ftw!!! Optional maybe? if they are aluminum n light (like 300zx brakes) It's be worth the buy compared to an aftermarket BBK.
