I love my Jeep regardless of gas, I can go anywhere I want and my convertible is better than any Miata, my doors come off whenever I want. With that said, I want a second dd that’s fun to drive and good on gas and already said I plan on testing MT and AT both.
For having learned how to drive a manual (and “knowing how” vs. being proficient are 2 different things) you have some strange questions like how slow you can drive in traffic with a manual... you can drive at any speed with the MT. Yes I did read your post saying that this will be a second vehicle to your Jeep... that was my whole point. You kept saying you were leaning towards the AT because it gets better gas mileage than the MT... both the MT and AT twins will get much better gas-mileage than the Jeep. Somebody deciding on an AT over MT twin based on gas mileage just sounds like a cop-out. Like I said, if you want an AT that’s fine, stop being so defensive about it.

Fair enough, I agree with you about knowing how vs. being proficient and can easily admit I’m not proficient. I don’t think I’m being defensive or “coping out” but OK. I’m in no way afraid of driving stick, I actually enjoyed it, just not sure I want it daily especially after seeing some credible YouTube videos of new updated AT’s. Zero penalty according to some hardcore MT guys. I’m gonna say it again, I plan on testing both in March, not buying until this next year anyway since I’m paying cash so I have plenty of time. I’ll test drive everything below 35k I can get my hands on for fun. It’s hard, but wait will be worth it.

Imo, if fun is the only thing you are looking for, then maybe you should consider other drive trains as well, and not just 2-door FR cars. Other possible cars: WRX, Civic Si, Focus ST, Fiesta ST.. etc I'm sure you can find others, but I would steer clear of anything VW, those feel so numb.

Edit: they don't all come with an AT option though

Thx, not just looking for fun. I want long term reliability, good mpg, fun, great looking. As of today, it’s BRZ and RF with Recaros. Hate spoiler on Civic Si, and BRZ new top of line model. WRX body style just doesn’t do it for me.

The tS wing? I kind of like it, but hate the standard wing the BRZs have with a passion. The 86 has the option to go without the wing, achieved by getting any trim besides the top one.

I said it earlier, but I think the RF is really overpriced and if you're willing to spend that, you could put a lot into a BRZ or 86. The RF does look cool though

I also had my search narrowed down to the BRZ or RF after multiple test drives of many sports cars. I even strongly considered a Mustang GT although I’ve never owned a muscle car, newer Mustangs actually handle really well and offer a lot of bang for the buck... but I just couldn’t get past the size and weight of it. I’ve owned two Miatas already so I have a real appreciation for them, but the floppy suspension and light steering of the RF was a bit of a let-down compared to the incredible handling and steering of the BRZ. Also, the ND is VERY limited on interior and trunk space, more so than the NB and NC Miatas I owned before. On the other hand, if you really want a drop-top (which as you’ve said you already have with the Jeep), then that’s a win for the Miata. If you want to squeeze every ounce of gas mileage, that’s also a win for the Miata. The WRX is obviously the most practical, but it just didn’t have the sporty driving feel that the BRZ does so I think you are right by ruling it out.

I like the low-profile wing of the BRZ over the tS wing. The tS wing reminds me of the park bench looking monstrosities from the first Fast and Furious movie... like an afterthought from the auto parts store that some kid bolted on the trunk of their 1992 Civic in their backyard. The current hellaflush trend makes me want to too though, so as we know it all comes down to personal taste and preference.

Someone could sit on the hatch, and use the wing/spoiler for a table ( play cards.....eat on.....use your imagination )
