I can hardly believe the uproar over deleting a full size spare that will probably be used 1% of the time. Is this a Honda forum re-incarnated or what?

One less thing i have to take out when i go to the track! i will also be using my car for business in which i regluarly carry largish objects and that raised boot was going to be a PITA. I really couldnt care less, in fact im happy.

It's called competition ... and it's great.

Had Inchcape not imported this car, the 86 would have been the $40k base model you were all expecting ... and it still would have sold.

Of course TMCA went in hard with very keen spec and pricing that try as they might, Inchcape couldn't match.

TMCA have just adjusted their product offering to increase their margin, while still remaining competitive against the Inchcape product. They deleted something many people don't want anyway, a smart move considering how many second hand wheels will be available over the coming years.

So relax and just ask whether you'd like a $34k GT or $39k GTS without spares, or a $43k GT and $50k GTS with a spare. Yes, you want a $25k turbocharged GTS, but although that ain't happening either ... things could be worse.

Well imagine you got a contractor to build you a house. The agreement was that it was to have 5 bedrooms - although you really need just 4. When the house is built it only has 4 bedrooms - wouldn't you be pissed off?

A bit of strange analogy but you gotta realise that people are losing about $1000 worth of value and there isn't much they can do about it.

Keep in mind that the price we paid at time of signing contract is in relation to the specs and inclusions the car comes with. Whether or not we decide OURSELVES to remove these items upon delivery and replace it with something else is entirely up to us.
By changing or modifying parts such as removing spares and boot mat is devaluing the car that we initially agreed upon.

An executive decision from Toyota that "There is not enough boot space, so we will remove the spare and mat" is downright just an excuse for cost cutting measures. If this spare and boot mat was permanently fixed to the chassis and structure than I would understand a decision like that. This however are items that can be easily removed and changed.

This might work out very well for me, actually. I am waiting on the timings of my BRZ order while I also have a GT order - could be a good "out" cause for the GT one.

Unless the car gets build before September, in which case I might have to find someone who wants a white 86 GT in early Sep

Wish people would stop saying "we all didn't want it anyway" as that is false.

For the orders already placed it should come with the spare (in fact the Toyota website still says alloy spare on the specs). They can change the spec for new orders that is fine (once they stop advertising the feature).

Lets hope Toyota Australia do this and then we can all be happy again and go back to waiting for our cars in peace :-)

QFT. As I said earlier - mine's currently an August build so should come with a full size spare (Which I want even though I've already gone out and bought a spacesaver) - but this is a great analogy - I'd have bought one at this price with a spacesaver or even the repair kit, if that's what I'd signed up for but it isn't.

Just got the call from the dealer on this issue, he was just notifying the customers of the decision by Toyota.

Also got an update on the production month, was september, but its been one of the ones effected by the delays and is now showing October production. So here's looking at a November pickup.

You should go cancel your order in protest of the lack of full size spare. Take your money elsewhere!

Your dealer is great, giving you update on this issue and production month. I wonder when's my dealer is going to ring me?

I ordered mine early, and have been waiting since March - If you'd read my posts earlier in the thread you'll see I don't have a problem with either a spacesaver or spare-in-a-can.

Mine's August build so I get a full size spare, no need to cancel.

I'm showing empathy (that is putting myself in someone else's situation) with those that aren't getting what they ordered - as I said in my post - I'd have bought the car anyway if those were the standard inclusions when I ordered it, however if I'd ordered it thinking I was getting a full size spare and then didn't, like a lot of people here are, then I'd be annoyed and ask the dealer to ask Toyota for some recompense.

If you'd ordered a car with Nav and it came with a portable GPS would you be happy? It still has nav right?

The good thing is some dealers are being upfront and communicating early with their customers.

Have you got your car yet? Or are you thinking of cancelling your order?

SIGH. The full size spare was one of the reasons I went GTS over GT, the very same GTS that I am now waiting even longer for.

Asshole move Toyota.
