I'm surprised the CR-Z was brought into this.

The style is not popular but it's a much better compared to the Prius! That and a 6spd option make it 10x cooler than the Prius. Which is what this car should be compared with in some aspects. I love that style of car and would pick the CR-Z over the bigger, more MPG Prius any day.

The beam axle is not a big drawback, it's easily worth the 50lbs or so that it saved and the extra cargo room it allows. If Honda had offered it without the hybrid drivetrain I might have considered it, with back seats of course, even though it's a FWD Honda.

If it gives any perspective the CRZ was kind of what I was hoping for in the FT-86/FR-S way back and now the baby 86, which I haven't completely given up on. Except for being FWD, hybrid(at least offer it w/o hybrid geez), and 2 seater(only in the US).

Comparing a Prius and a CRZ is a odd thing to do. They have completely different target markets.

Most people looking at a Prius wouldn't be remotely interested in the CRZ. When talking to a few non-enthusiast friends of mine about the new "econo-pocket rocket", most of them saw it like this: The CRZ only seats 2 people, so family use or even car pooling is out of the question. Storage capability is lame. It's not as good on gas as the Prius, which sucks ass considering it's a much smaller car. And most of them thought it was ugly.

Remember that the majority of the public aren't car enthusiasts like us. They won't see it as a tribute to the CRX, nor do they care. The bottom line is that it's very impractical and unsure of what it is -- neither a sports car, nor a good hybrid. It's a bad replacement for the S2000 (2-seater Honda) because it's not really all that sporty off the showroom floor, and it's a lame hybrid because it doesn't even save as much on fuel as it's larger competitors.

I guess it's not a terrible first attempt. But if this car does make it to a 2nd gen release, I really hope Honda does some serious improvements.
