Imo an airaid intake is overpriced. Few hundred bucks to lose horsepower? Imo 100 bucks per horse is about what you'll pay in the end nowadays, if ur lucky so roughly 40/horse depending on dyno isn't bad. NA of course. U can always fool urself by baseline in 4th and after in 5th if u feel better.

Yes.
To me, you have no idea how to run a business. If we were to follow your reasoning, one would price a Toyota Camry to sell at around $8-10k for a MSRP $30K vehicle. But it's very easy to sell a product for such an absurd margin relative to cost, I totally understand. Labor cost is probably zero to you too. -alex |

It is worth whatever someone will pay for it. If they price it too high they won't sell enough. Don't like the price? Vote with your wallet because that is the only message they really notice. Bunch of people spazzing on a forum has zero impact.
Once they recoup their r&d money and the initial surge of demand declines the price will drop to reflect the actual production cost more closely. Wait and see or don't buy at all, but don't cry. No one cares.

Good hell we have us a lot if top shelf internet engineers in here! I'm surprised you haven't collaborated to build a better cheaper product for the community already! You should do the community a favor and keep it out of this thread please. I didn't know proving a product was producing real gains would cause so much debate from such top pay grade engineers and business men.
However I want to say thanks to everyone else that kept things on topic and for the compliments!

The only thing product "cost" tells me is how cheap raw materials are. It does not tell me how good a company is at marketing their product, positioning it, bringing it to market efficiently, and all the other things that make a product appealing to me. If we were to judge all things sold in this world based on material cost only, there would be no incentive to be innovative. Crawford obviously is first to market with this product, they deserve all the accolades right now considering no one else has brought anything to market. -alex |

Machining cost is a question of quantity. One would take me half a day probably, starting from plate, blocking out on a plate saw, programming and machining on the prototraks I run. OR, waterjet them by the hundreds, then gang fixture in a milling center and bring the average time per part to a couple minutes. Making these from molded phenolic wont cost any less on the scale we're looking at.
Cost is a very small part of market price though. A product is worth what people will pay, and reality is, these WILL sell, so the price is right. I'm sure most of us here have paid a lot more for exhaust systems than do much less(raises hand). |
