See, this is purely YOUR criteria. And what you THINK is a sports car.

Wow where do you live? That's actually pretty good. If you end getting one, I hope you dont mind sharing your experience, because I also prefer the BRZ. There is only one Subaru dealer in my area.

Totally agree. My insurance rates on a 13 year old Tiburon are notably higher than they would be on a brand new MX-5 precisely because the Tib was bought by a bunch of poor thrill-seekers who racked up the violations and accidents while the MX-5 is pricey enough to be bought largely by middle-aged men who rarely drive over the limit.

I'd say the opposite, most young folks who are paying themselves will cross shop this with the usual suspects and if its your own money and you dont track the car much, you'll go with something cheaper pocket the cash. I see MORE teens/highschool/ricer kids driving this at 25k because the parents will pay for it without much contemplation or comparison with other cars on the market.

I'm certain any survey of car enthusiasts would largely be in agreement with my position on this.

The area you live in has something to do with it, yes. However, that makes little differance when compared to the car you are driving. Insuring a sports car is expensive, specially and entry level one. Granted some places are less than other, but the price is still high.

True, I do see that happening also. I know this car will suffer from ricing pretty badly, but hey we all know that. I guess its hopeless, either way I'm not worrying about that for a at least a year. I guess time will tell where the insurance rates end up. It will be high, but most sporty cars are anyways, just hope its not too unreasonably high.

Again, the FRS is priced right for (me) the enthusiast. We're paying a about the same as a GC coupe for the experience and the tangibles that people forget like shifter feel, relatively low wieght and driving position.

Not the power, or bragging rights. We just want to have fun.

And again, I think this price could only suggest that Scion isn't trying to appeal to the masses. I'd think that 80% of people (non-enthusiasts) would choose something else at this price point. And now thinking about it even if it was priced lower it probably still wouldn't compete in the mass market.

But for me, I've been waiting for a hardtop version of the S2000 and the FRS not only seems to fit the bill, but seems to be worth every penny.

Side note: In the thread about a forum member getting to drive the car, the big guy, he said that the red bolsters are not going to be making it into production. Has anyone heard of anything along these lines?
All I know is that this is true for Canadian production models -stated by Canada's Scion brand manager at the Canadian IAS.

I already decided that I wouldn't be buying this car this year with my current financial situation but had the price come out at $22k, I would have had a much harder time sticking with that decision. The fact that it is $25k without any accesories helps me to be more responsible and wait a year or 2 for the used market and continue saving for a house or bigger payments on my mortgage-sized student loans. Thanks Scion...I think....

Some complaints about the price, but when I step back and look at the collective sum of all the parts we are potentially purchasing.....I think....No other car and manufacture combination out there presently, can produce a car of this specification. The Center of Gravity can't be matched by anyone else for the price of $24,930. They would have to start from scratch to produce such vehicle and thus the R&D would be way out of scope for such a car.

You can't get this package ANY WHERE else. And that package only cost me $24,930...Meh seems fair to me, to have a vehicle no other manufacture can even touch in terms of specs. All they can do is throw more hp into their cars to entice you to swing the other way. When I or the OEM throws more Hp into the FR-S/BRZ...then what? You will have a New World Order that's what...
