I really hate this car buying experience. But you gotta do what you gotta do...
Just go into a dealership and don't let them F@$#$ around with you. Be calm and just say this is what I want. You've gotten lots of good info from here. You're prepared so just DO IT....buy that sexy FRS! We all look forward to seeing pics of your new car!

Great info on this post. Hopefully they can hook me up with a TRD short shift or Weathertech accessories or something lol. Scion makes it really hard to drop prices from reading this thread, and they won't go any lower after trying to walk out to other dealers.

Well... I pulled the trigger Sunday. Bought an Oceanic Blue, MT FR-S.

Thanks to everyone for your input and ideas! I took the easy way out and went online and bought it at Longo Scion. $28,153 OTD and the only option was the rear bumper applique. At first, I was going to go with no options but then I remembered how scraped up my Yaris bumper got no mater how hard I tried to lift up and over...

Now's a good time to buy, too! Toyota is knocking off $700 from FR-Ss, even the 2016s.

And so it begins...

I'm finally getting my Miata sold and looking at buying options for a FR-S. Winter before tax return season seems like a good time to snag deals, but this Pure Price thing doesn't seem to do them any favors.

The Scion dealer a few miles from my house has a new base '15 red manual, but they still want $26,100. What baffles me is that pricing is all over the map at other dealers. Some are $1,000 to $1,500 lower for the same thing. Kind of hard to leverage when no-haggle is the outwardly stated policy.

Are dealers skirting Pure Price with sales tax paid, generous trade-in allowances, etc.? What perks are people getting on old stock?

I went to 5 dealers geographically separated by about 50miles. They all had the same prices around here. They can't touch the sales tax but I suppose they could haggle with trade in prices (I had no trade in) or add accessories or additional free service...

You could try to argue for them to include any of the options available on the car and / or for winter tires (some people here have claimed to had success, best I got was an offer to give me a discount on winter tires)...

If you can find a used one that's probably the way to go, but if you're adverse to buying used and are set on a new FR-S (as opposed to the BRZ*) you might have to bite the bullet...

*BRZ - Dealers were still a bit reluctant to offer discounts but at least you / they are not bound to pure price so if you find the right dealer maybe you'll be able to haggle away to your heart's content.

Can anyone give me some insight on my BRZ?

So, I ended up going with a lease for 2 years since the offer imo was better.

Im in Canada(Ontario) and the MSRP of a 2016 sport-tech BRZ Automatic is 32,576.15(includes pdi+freight+"other fees") before taxes. Since I didn't want to put in a down payment to finance or spend 37k right off the bat and purchase it, so I decided to lease.

I'm paying about $445 a month for 2 years at 0.9%. The residual price is around 20k before tax? (Somewhere from 20~22k, not too sure). In total, if I were to purchase the car at the end of the 2 year lease, it'd come out to be around 37.5k, tax included (Includes the lease payments)
It was the 2016 model and I ordered it around Mid October. Taking into consideration it's a brand new model and start of the new year, do you think I got a decent deal? I mean, 37.5k is basically the cash price I would have to pay in cash, the dealership wasn't really willing to negotiate on a new car, maybe a 1k decrease at most.
Also since the car is shipped fresh from Japan and will take like 6 months, I couldn't really use the "it's winter" excuse to negotiate the price.

I'd say considering the lease it's a good price a new one would have run me 36k with taxes when I went looking so you aren't too far off especially if considering you are on a lease

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. There was a 2015 one at the dealership when I went in and we were originally negotiating on that one, but somehow the 2016 one ended up with a cheaper price? The salesperson said the manager "messed up" and didn't look at the deal properly. Considering the 2016 has the back-up cam, I say it's worth an extra bit anyways, but ended up paying less.

Did feel kind of shitty after we signed the papers and went home though. When we were working on the deal, the salesperson inputted the residual value to show us what we would pay at the end of the lease to buy it, it came out to be around 34k..(I was happy as hell because that's a steal) but I realized too late that she wasn't including the tax on the residual value at the end which made the deal end up around 37k..

Nonetheless, still a decent deal though.

Not going to argue the pure pricing on new models for scion BUT it is important to note that you can and should haggle the price of your trade in.

I've had a family member use that technique on a FRS. They told the dealer that they could get a BRZ premium from a local dealer for confirmed offer at $23xxxk and asked the Scion dealer to make up the difference on the trade in and that worked.

Each Scion dealer is different so shop around for the best deal. Some may not budge on trade in but will give you free accessories or extended warranty etc.

I emailed the local dealer with the $26k 2015 FR-S with my intent to buy a FR-S soon, and asked about coming down in price. They never responded.

I also emailed a distant dealer listing a relatively low price (several thousand off MSRP) on an identical car, and they stopped responding after I inquired tax/doc fees and dealer add-ons not included in the price.

They're all going to make money somewhere.

Here we go again.

They can charge whatever they want for it (above or below) as long as all the advertising and pricing for that individual car is the same. So if they want to charge $25K for white and $28K for blue they can.
Having said all that there are many guys that say they bargained price so some dealers at least will do it. The other thing you can do if they won't budge on price (remember they are not supposed to) is bargain for add ons for free or low cost. This is what I did and I got a shit load of extras for pennies on the dollar.

Scion Pure Price Solution Guide

Why Haggle?
Scion is unique because both the products and buying process are designed to create a whole new culture that will change the consumer's car buying experience. At Scion we respect your time by creating a simple, straightforward, easy to understand approach called "Pure Price."
Scion's "Pure Price" purchase experience means no haggle, no hassle. The price you pay for all products and services offered equals the dealership's posted and advertised price. Price menus are clearly posted in the dealership showroom for all products and services. Dealers are free to set their own prices.
Pure Price - A Definition

Pure Price means that the price you see posted in an ad, on the dealer's website, or on a menu display board in the dealership - is the price you will pay. This includes vehicles, accessories, and even finance and insurance products. All our prices are clearly posted.
Why Use Pure Price?

Our customers told us they want a shorter, simpler process with less pressure - and we listened. With the Scion Pure Price Solution, you don't have to negotiate price - or sit around the dealership waiting for someone to "crunch the numbers."
In many cases, you'll deal with only one person for the entire transaction - start to finish. That makes it easier on you - and easier on us. We can devote more time and attention to getting you the car you want - and getting you on your way.
Benefits to You

Pure Price saves time. No one has to sit through an extended negotiation period.
You get more personal service. While your Sales Consultant may call on others for expertise as needed, he/she will handle almost the whole transaction.
Pure Price is open and consistent. What you see is what you get. No surprises. Nothing hidden.
With Pure Price, you don't have to be a good negotiator to get a good deal.
Anything Else?

Pure Price doesn't mean that all cars will be priced the same. For example, some colors may be priced differently than other colors. But the posted price is always the price you pay.

I wish the Pure Price policy extended to the Finance Guy somehow. I wasted more time with him than with salesmen and their managers before I started buying online (which eliminates the Finance Guy in the transaction)...
