I have always used All-season tires (so 30 years snow experinece, NEVER with snow tires).

SO I thought it would be the same with this car.
I drove out of my neighborhood one day in the snow and about 1 degree above freezing.
I did brake checks and steering checks before pulling out onto a freeway.

Then SPUN the car completely into oncoming traffic on the freeway.
It was partially the fault of the TC/VSC system, but the zero grip from the tires was the initial cause.

Never again - The Primacy HPs turn into polished granite below about 35 degrees...

I now have Hankook Winters and I can drive circles around some 4WD cars out there.
Shit, Pilot Super Sports are better than the stock pieces of shit in light snow and the cold. I had the stocks out a couple of times last winter before my x-ice 3's came in and while it wasn't impossible there was never a time where I wasn't countersteering.

I've found its easier to drive the frs on winter tires with the tc/vsc all off rather than on. I've never had tc or any type of system in my older jdm awd and rwd cars, so I probably just grew some weird habits.

I rocked the oem michelin primacy tires for a day and decided never again. Bought some crappy non studded michelin x ice 2 and they are incredible compared to oem.

So I'm actually learning how to drive manual with my new BRZ on the weekends.

I dont commute with it, and its parked in my GF's driveway (since he lives in Brooklyn and has one while I do not).

I was planning on continuing my practice this weekend if the roads were dry. But if I'm reading things right, these tires aren't even safe when roads are dry if the temperature outside is low?

No, they're definitely safe in the dry. They perform worse the colder it gets but as long as you're not trying to seriously push it you'll be completely fine.

17 degrees this morning and I have x-ice 3's in set of black steelies. When it gets this cold the dedicated snow tires really shine. The handling is better at this temp than the handling at say 40 degrees. Too squishy when it's "warm" out.

I don't use hub caps. I applied a synthetic paint sealant on all metal surfaces of the wheel inside and outside of wheel. Should help with preventing corrosion from the harsh road treatment chemicals aka calcium chloride.

It's fun to drive this car with a fresh coating of snow on the roads!

Yeah I don't think the jury is out on that one. I've read both, but no actual data has been shown one way or another. To me it makes sense that it would increase thread life due to the cooling properties of sipping. Think of the grooves in terms of a heat sink.

Guess I'll have to sipe two tires and not sipe the other two and get some actual data on this

The lowest I've taken it out on stocks was 33F and kept it within the speed limit while going easy on the pedal, but I was still nervous as hell on turns...haha.

I have the same setup and know exactly what you mean. Dry handling is so much better than when I was on Blizzaks.

Winter tires will most certainly make a night and day difference on ANY vehicle. From driving my FRS which has Michelin xice3's and going to my work truck (GMC sierra 1500) which has almost bald all seasons on, driving the truck is like having granite blocks for tires. They spin like crazy and get little to no traction. Definitely a wildly noticeable feeling
