Broke 1 2 weeks ago and said screw it since. Its a lease so I can't damage anything (aka use of a hammer). Will probably end up paying a half hour of labor at some shop eventually to have both removed w/o compromising anything. Tips were only $40 shipped, pretty much why im not rushing into it.

I used some WD40 and a socket wrench and the bolts came off like butter.

Maybe I'll try that on the second 1 and see how it goes.

How I removed my BRZ exhaust tips

I also had screws that crumbled off. I just used some shears to cut the outer sheet of the tip so I could get to the inner band (holding the screw in place) which I hack sawed off. Then the tip pretty much slides off.

This leaves the OEM tips destroyed, but I wasn't planning on reusing them anyways. It took me all of three minutes per tip and saved me a trip to the hardware store. I know this is not for everyone, I tried my broken screw removal kit, but wasn't having succes with that. So just another option for those of us with broken screws.

So I attempted to remove my stock exhaust tips today and I broke both the bolts.... After thinking about it I'm pretty sure that I just turned the socket in the wrong direction. I turned the socket to the left but I'm guessing that since the bolt is upside down on the exhaust tip I should have turned it the other way. If anyone else could confirm this it could save some trouble for the newbie modders.

And if anyone has any advice as to how to remove the broken bolts i would greatly appreciate it. I don't have a powerful enough drill that my small drill bits will fit into so I don't think I can manage a bolt extraction. I would like to keep the stock tips intact just in case so I'm not really sure what I should do. Should I just have someone professionally remove the tips? Would that even be worth the price and would they end up destroying the stock tips anyways? Thanks for any responses!

Yup you went the wrong way. Should have turned right (counterclockwise).

So I managed to get the bolts out by drilling through them with a 1/8th cobalt drill bit until I was able to punch a screwdriver into the hole and turn the screwdriver until the bolt came out. Managed to get the bolts out and the exhaust tips off without damaging them at all!

I really like the beefier look of the jdm tips.

Man, I can't decide which DC ones to go with. Hmmmm

I originally wanted to get the track pipe, but I didn't know they were SO FKING LOUD in person. It sounded godly in the youtube videos.

Don't really care about the cat back or axle back exhaust. Just want some beefier exhaust tips. And found the DC tips in some other topics.

DC Sports EX-1013 from Advanced Auto Parts. $27 each.

I had to cut one of my exhaust tips off too. I soaked both bolts in liquid wrench for 10 mins and Very gently unscrewed them. The screw felt like it was coming out ok but when I looked at it, it was twisted off.

Any way, they are installed and looking good. Car is dirty though, Much salt.

I tried to take my stock exhaust tips off yesterday, the first one no problem. The second one the screw of course broke with no effort. So I took my car to a local exhaust shop and they used a blow torch to get it off for $10.
