Kia said that would never make it into production (even IF the car were to). Crash/safety issues.

I'm struggling to see why you're comparing a $30k (if built) concept sports car against a $70k (if built) sports car. That's like you saying you were considering the Fiesta ST but changed your mind when the C7 Corvette was unveiled.

I get your point but I think I get theirs as well. They were fine w/ the $30K options but the FT1 just caused such a viceral response that they now want to sell a kidney and their first born to get it. I completely understand.

I mean if you have the means I suppose that makes sense. But 95% of the people interested in a car like the GT4 don't have that much disposal income.

On a related note, a recent article in Jalopnik shows that this car is closer to production than the haters have been saying:

Yup, saw that. Here's one from this morning:

http://www.thetorquereport.com/2014/...rive_late.html

Should arrive in time for the Toyobaru to respond and roll out their planned power upgrade in 2015. Competition is good.

I'd be concerned the concept is actually closer to 2900lbs though.

Nope, latest reports are it's canned. Plus it would have likely been heavier than the twins with worse weight distribution anyway.

Thanks for the link. However almost that entire story is about Kia not making a 2 seat roadster. Not the 2+2 coupe.

Perhaps an error in translation, or taken out of his quote improperly (since they're not a Chinese company.)

When asked about the car:
Quote:
“The volume will be smaller and then we can’t enhance the brand image fully. We would like to build our brand image to some level. Then we can maximize the effects of the new car launch. From a marketing point, a new car launch should be helpful to enhancing the brand image. If a Chinese brand introduced a roadster, would it affect customer perception? I don’t think so.
Even though we are doing very well in the global market, many customers do not know Kia yet,” he conceded.
Even as far back as the reveal, Kia had said there were not plans to produce it. Peter Schreyer thinks the brand needs some sports cars, but the other execs disagree for now. Shortly before the above-linked article was posted, the car had still not been greenlit for production.

Do I want to see it though? Hell yeah.

It would be okay if it wasnt a Kia. Im sorry its still a Kia to me. Like a hundyai. I wouldnt buy one. Although it would look better if the front bumper had more aggressive lighting other than the vertical DRL's.
