Especially considering the car is being developed for a basically unproven niche, I suspect many will buy the car on hype alone without understanding the purpose and consequently aren't able to enjoy it. Happens to all new sports cars, this one will be no different. |

Sure, some will pop up, but I think the point is to add those ADD sellers to the total, which makes sense if the car's a flop. Otherwise there will be more people with ADD who'll want to buy it slightly used above MSRP, making them less affordable then waiting for a new one. I wouldn't add those to the total.

Btw, 6k units in a year? For reference, they built about 3,500 "M" Edition Miatas each year from '94-97. Thats nearly 20 years ago. Do you know how often an M Edition Miata comes up for sale? Pretty often. (note: carfax lists every Miata as an M, leading to a lot of confusion in sales listing by dealers - half are actually M's)
They made 1,500 STO Model Miatas, total, and only in 1997. I was able to find one to buy used 10 years later within an hour from my house. I've seen two others driving around my town. So 6,000 BRZ built in the first year - if they stop after year 1, you'll still be able to find them for sale used 10 years from now, though selection may be poor and finding an unmodified one or low mileage one could take patience. |

Either way, this car is important and for true car enthusiast it will never fail regardless of the production numbers. I'd say, the fewer, the better in terms of value in the future. They can easily recoupe all their R&D with only JDM sales and Japanese commitment to 'legacy', and then fail globally. It doesn't matter anyway. This car is a statement and they've achieved their goal already. Thus my post about emotional value and attachment above. Only if bastards like Scion would not be killing this car with its crappy-cheappy motos and moves. Stupid, stupid Toyota! Last edited by Oriental Life; 03-14-2012 at 12:59 AM. |

Last I checked the FR-S and BRZ weigh 2680 lbs. My money's on the Camry. This car isn't for straight line drag races though...

So this is good news. Now only if they would release the price!

More info from The Truth about Cars -
http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...ed-subaru-brz/ Spokespeople at Subaru were very busy today, preparing for an event on Friday. Finally, Subaru spokesman Masato Saito was dragged out of a meeting and said that these rumors are not “based on official information by FHI (Fuji Heavy Industries).” He did not want to comment further. Toyota always maintained that it will sell as many hachi-roku as possible, with CEO Akio Toyoda personally leading the charge. A quick chat confirms that Toyota has not changed this stance. Not surprisingly, Toyota’s spokesman Naoto Fuse says that “as for the Toyota 86, we plan to sell between 30,000 and 40,000 units annually overseas, mostly in North America and Europe.” Why were Subaru spokespeople so busy? On Friday, there will be a line-off party at the Subaru plant. Subaru BRZ, Toyota 86, GT 86, Scion FR-S will be rolling off the line as quickly as they can build them, and as many as importers order will be shipped. Expect the first ones to arrive at U.S. shores in approximately a month from now. After a few weeks of thin supplies, common to any new model launch, you should be able to choose from plenty cars. Don’t buy the shortage story and pay above MSRP. |
