hahah nice

If I am gonna get a TRD BBK that is advertised as being monoblocks by Brembo, then I expect actual monoblocks by Brembo; not 2-piece calipers by some other manufacturer…

(and yes, in it's stock form, 6/4's are way overkill for this go-kart)
The TRD kit I saw today (for a Scion TC) was not a monobloc. I would expect a similar kit for this car, but who knows? I would be very surprised if it was monoblock and less surprised that it was a marketing guy that got something mixed up. But...maybe we'll see the real thing soon.

You are correct, I was just using the colloquial terminology. However, and please correct me if I'm wrong, didn't the Lexus LS430 use actual monoblock calipers?

Yes but now I do not know when. Either I'll drive the GT86 until I buy another daily car or I get at once a the stripped car, but I don't know if it will be offered in EU.

As for brakes, in any case I'll keep the stock ones with upgraded hoses, pads, fluid and added cooling ducts. As simple as that.

I will only consider 4/2 piston AP Racing BBK, after an engine rebuild (NA 300 PS). As an engine rebuild will cost very much, the BBK will not be soon.

As all other knowlegeable know, the BBK is only for looks, but I don't care if some spend their money on it.

This car, the Mazda MX-5 GT is powered by a NA 275 PS I4 and weighs 850 kg. It does 0-100 km/h in about 3 sec. It only has 4 piston AP Racing BBK in front.

I love Brembo but a BBK is absolutely insane for that price. I would wait to see what other people offer up, StopTech, Endless (Rebranded and fancy Megan calipers) and Megan themselves.

Regarding TRD. TRD Japan and TRD North America are independent companies. They have different market roles and racing roles.

Toyota Technocraft = TRD Japan. http://www.toyota-ttc.co.jp/english/outline.html

North American TRD: http://www.toyotaracing.com/trd/

So even if the JDM TRD brochure shows monobloc Brembos, that doesn't automatically mean we will see them here. My old wheels were JDM TRD wheels. They were rebadged Rays forged monobloc wheels. In North America they were rebadged cast Enkei's.

no comments regarding my post from Stop Tech?

for the TL;DR crowed

- "monobloc" is marketing hype
- Formula 1 was working with advanced composite materials until they were banned from spending that much cash
- therefore the general public never got to see the fruits of their labors
- aluminum is junk for calipers
- steel rules all
- stiffness is more important than strength
- two piece units designed using advanced cad software using steel components is best

Interesting. How does that typically work with the aesthetic pieces? It'd be a shame if we didn't get the TRD spoiler over here.

I have great respect for StopTech and their white papers, however, one must remember they are competing for market space like Wilwood, Brembo/AP, and others, so some conclusions need to be taken with a grain of salt. Unless we're talking about FIA Grade A competition or higher (a marketplace StopTech does not compete in), the construction difference between monobloc and two-piece calipers on street cars are negligible.

That said, I do agree "monobloc" is marketing hype and has become a commonly overused term, however, the people willing to pay for TRD/STI/Brembo BBK usually don't spend much serious time at the track.

Just ordered the 4 front and 2 rear kit. Does anyone know if I can retain the factory parking brake or if I should get one from Brembo. Thanks!
