more info and renderings from autoexpress

The Honda NSX supercar is set to return as a 400bhp four-wheel-drive hybrid. Honda has already confirmed that a new NSX will be revealed at the Detroit Motor Show in January, and now we have more information on the Japanese Audi R8 rival.

We’ve already seen spy shots of a concept car on the set of the new Avengers movie, and we’ve since had confirmation that the Detroit show car will be heavily based on that model. Our images show a coupe, but the final production version will also be offered as a roadster.

The concept will be shown as an Acura – the firm’s luxury North American arm – but it will be badged as a Honda when it arrives in the UK, and retain its forebear’s NSX name. Power will come from a 3.5-litre V6 driving one axle and a pair of in-wheel electric motors to turn the other. This will give the NSX four-wheel-drive traction and 400bhp-plus. Performance will be impressive, with 0-62mph taking under five seconds

400 PS an 0-100 kph under 5 sec is not that impressive. BMW i8 has about 360 PS combined (FI 1.6l I4 + Electric), weighs 1480 kg and gets from 0-100 kph in 4.6 sec. With a 450 PS NA 3.5L V6 and weight of 1.000 kg the NSX will not need any electric power and will not have to fear any 911, R8, Lambo or Ferrari. But unfortunately it won't be the case.

So it looks like its staying true to the original so far... Over priced, underpowered, amazing handling.

I do not believe it. Honda has lost its way. They make great people haulers...Odysseys, Accords, Civics and their "sportiest" car, the CRZ, but they focused on being "green" and "socially responsible" to such an extreme that they have been left behind.

When they were on top of the world, winning F1 championships in the 1980s and early 1990s, they had the wonderful idea of coming up with a jewel of a car with an amazingly capable chassis and engine. BUT IT STOPPED THERE. If they had continued to tune and develop that chassis and powertrain, as the 911 has done, can you imagine where the NSX would be now, almost 20 years later? When the NSX was introduced it was competing and bettering the best from Italy and Germany. Honda let it languish and eventually die....shame on Honda.

I hope that there will be a resurrection of the finest drivers car to ever come out of the land of the rising sun, but they will have to do much more than just talk. Honda has become the least sporting car company of all major automobile manufacturers in the world...do they even remember that they dominated Formula One racing at one time...a long, long time ago.
I wish I could give you a medal for saying this.

I started a huge Honda fanboy. Honda was in its prime in the 90s, and after 2000 they fell off a cliff.

The Acura lineup is dull, boring, and a poor match for the other luxury brands. The current gen Civic is a tragedy, falling off the Consumer Reports best buy list since ever. The CRZ is slow and heavy. The Crosstour is ugly as sin, and is selling badly. Honda has no plans for any sportscars save the S2000, which hasn't had a meaningful refresh since 2004.

Honda is dead to me. Most of my Prelude buddies agree that Honda has nothing on the table, and nothing in the pipeline. They are a true has-been of performance.

I feel desame on toyota from late 90's early 2000 only thing going for them was the celica & mrs not totally fail but it got soft no more gt4 celica 2.0 turbo & no more 2.0 turbo mr2 till akio toyoda arrived then we have the LFA, IS-F then this FRS/86. I hope honda hires a ceo that has same passion on motor sports like akio toyoda, then maybe will see more NSX, S2000 & back to real type-r.
