Not really, perhaps someone wants race gas or e85.

ECUTek cable (optional) ~$300
Depends on the calibrator/ tuner.

Tune files are in the 125-150 range

Well, I wrote ~$350 being conservative based on Visconti (350) FA20Club (250) Local ECUtek tuner Dynamic turbo (300). Who has an ECUTek flash for 125-150? That is a STEAL!

Visconti already went over this in one of his threads (actually, might've trickled into one of the other tuner's threads as well). According to the ECUTek guys, if you reflash back to stock, the dealer has no way of seeing what you've done. The # of OEM writes remain the same. From how it was described, ECUTek uses a different register to keep track of # of ECUTek writes, and the OEM uses its own register to keep track of dealer writes. ECUTek doesn't touch the OEM one. If you don't reflash back to stock and the dealer attempts to read the ECU, they'll run into errors because the ECUTek flash locks everyone else (including OEM) out. They'll either assume it's a faulty ECU and insist on replacing it, or if they're mod-friendly, they'll hopefully ask you to reflash back to stock. Of course, anyone with an ECUTek tune should always reflash back to stock before bringing the car in for service.

This all being said, are you rejecting the ECUTek claim that they leave no footprint when reflashed back to stock? Would love to see some proof one way or the other, as I've always wondered about this myself.

The dealer can't tell if you reflash back to stock using their normal diagnostic tools, but there is a way that Subaru (not dealers from my understanding) can tell how many times the ECU has been flashed but they have to be speciffically looking for this.

To be honest though, they should be able to see if you are running different fuel grades or different oil viscosities anyways, which the majority of people running tunes are probably doing one or both of these things.

I thought I saw a poll somewhere on here that showed most of the ECUTek tunes were 91-93 rather than E85. Even if that's the case, I suspect once the FlexFuel kit is widely available, we'll see a lot more ECUTek customers move to E85.

As for oil viscosity, I haven't seen any data. I'm still on stock and don't intend on changing that as I have to deal with northern cold winter climates.

Right, that's what my understanding is as well, but if we're strictly referring to the footprint that the dealer can detect, ECUTek claims to be "clean" so long as you reflash to stock.

FYI, before I started tuning my car, I read as much as I could about what was necessary to do so. I suggest this book if you are interested.

This is a tune only. You need to already own a cable and license or be able to mail in your ECU.

Bolded the important part. I also contacted Jeremy a while back to verify. @FT-86 SpeedFactory if he wants to chime in, but this thread is going off topic.

Unichip - The plug and play kit does *not* include the map download cable which is required to get additional maps from your database on to the unichip.

Please confirm, thanks.

Not to hijack, but our Ecutek files are always 125-135.00.

Btw, the unichip is a damn fine unit. We have worked with several over the years on Porsche, and BMW. Good alternative to a factory ecu remap/ re calibration

The mail the ECU part, only replaces the cable. Even if you mail it in, you still need a license.
