My friend works at a Toyota dealership in Canada, he told me that he didn't hear any real information about the vehicle, furthermore the went on to guesstimate the time of its appearance on the N.American market as 2-3 years AFTER it goes into production in Japan. So clearly they haven't been told anything yet. |

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. I am pretty interested to purchase this vehicle when it comes out, if the performance matches the look. I don't want to sound negative and probably it's too soon to judge but so far I got the feeling that Toyota wants to take the easy way out by making this vehicle at the right time, which is when lots of people are looking for light weight coupe and has the performance like honda s2000. I just don't get it why they have to put the Boxster engine instead of making their own. If Honda makes the coupe version of s2000 with the lighter chassis and a little bit of redesign, I would like to know which one would out-sell. What I'm trying to say is, they should be able to make a car as good or better performance than a 12-year-old car. I'm just worried that they are trying to make something that is barely good enough for this market and put a cheap price on it so that people would buy it. Also that's what I have seen from Honda with their CRZ. I just don't get it. I hope I'm wrong and this car would be a lot better than what I think.

the used the boxer because this car is a colaberation with Subie and you forgot that Toyota redesigned the fb20 for this application so you cant really say they just took a boxer and that was that. While I was worried about that as well considering how long they have taken with all the R&D and testing this car has done I am sure it will be a great drivers car. I don't understand why people are saying hey the Ft is slower than the s2k is terrible since that car has been out for 10 years already when you have to consider they are from different classes (price wise) as well as the s2k was one of Honda best engineered cars ever and just because its older doesnt mean it cant be faster than new cars. I recalled reading that the ft86 did beat a s2k in the VLN race but just came in hard behind another s2k and a CTR however I cant confirm this via my poor navagation skills and the vln site

The FT86 (258) had a faster qualifying time than the S2k http://www.vln.de/ergebnisse/2011-10-15t.html But it was slower in the race. http://www.vln.de/ergebnisse/2011-10-15r.html Edit: If you look at the race lap times, the S2k didn't go all out during qualifying for whatever reason. first off, great tread thanks guys
is it safe to assume that its 200ps at the crank? because at the wheels would be acceptable. i dont know why a lot of people dismiss the comparison to the s2000. 12 years later you have to be able to at least match the performance of the f20c and get better gas milage. also the target weight is the same as the s2000 right? so what if in 2000 the s sold for 30k, i just sold my 2000 s2000 for 9k.. i plan to by this car as my first brand new car, unless it is under powered. and then on to looks.. this thing dose not look good in my opinion, but i'm not worried because all the concepts look quit good |

Thanks for the photos and updates guys.
No doubt the future of this car will be an exciting one. nixeighty6: it would be very hard to say that the car will have a certain "fixed" ps internationally as there will be many variables involved. i.e. the pump gas in Japan is 100 octane RON. California is around 91, Australia is up to 98 (maybe higher now). Then there is the consistency of how clean (untampered) the fuel is which each gas station. |
