The AT switches gears faster, the MT is faster to 60. big difference. You have to take into account gearing.

Oh, I know he's a troll. Go back to page 2. I'm just bored and am shooting down his flawed arguments due to incorrect representation of quotes. it's like the RNC/DNC up in here all over again!

Oh, look. More elitism about "How dare they offer an automatic?! Only those who can drive manual are entitled to drive a sports car!"

I'm sorry your still 104 weeks out on getting your FR-S, I'm sorry that you own a Camry, you should really come prepared with valid proof and validation from professionals prior to starting a thread like this. As far as I can see this is just another Troll Alert. AT vs. MT is not a sell out, it is a way to bring a viable product to consumers that would not consider a platform due to viability, preference or ergonomic usability.
Go eat your boogers and be on your way.

Real sports cars don't have gears already in place to automate the process. You have to hand-cut each one and throw it into the transmission while you're going down the road.

The problem is that the autos aren't bringing them sales - or at least the auto/manual mix is off from where toyota thought it would be. It's not difficult to find an un-purchased automatic FR-S/BRZ (assuming you're not a lazy ass not willing to drive further than 10 miles to find one) while it is very difficult to get your hands on a manual.
Also, a lot of the cars mentioned so far are not sports cars. Hell, in a purist view neither is the FR-S with its fixed roof and rear seats. Muscle cars and supercars are certainly performance cars, but they don't fit into the sports car subset (although there has certainly been a renewed emphasis on handling in the new round of pony/muscle cars, their weight works against them delivering the immediate feel that should define a sports car). -Justin

Remember back when RACECARS only had 1 gear! What's with this modern... multiple gear stuff!

I'm not saying the automatic doesn't have some advantages or shouldn't be made.
It just irritates me when people claim the automatic in this car has performance benefits and then back up their claim by listing cars with automated manual transmissions with either single or dual dry clutches. The fr–s has a torque converter standard automatic. Provide me an example of a sportscar/supercar with a traditional automatic that is faster than it's manual counterpart or is competitive with modern cars on a road course in its class.
