I know the BRZ buyers need to fork out $175 or so for the carpet boot cover. If you don't is the spare just sitting there exposed?

I am not to sure, i havent seen what it looks like without it, i assume there is something covering it, or the carpet go's around the wheel?
I ordered the carpet...

I would not be happy with this at all if i had an 86 on order (have BRZ on order). One of the many boxes that this car ticked for me was the inclusion of the full size spare (even with the boot space intrusion). I do country driving and a spare is a must have. A split side wall and no mobile reception can result in a long cold night.

When I test drove the BRZ, carpet goes around the tyre.

ah nice, so i am guessing the carpet you get extra is more of a cap that go's over the top? this may work well for when i put my sub in the spare wheel well.

Is anyone able to confirm you'll be able to get a space saver wheel in under the altered floor mat? And without anything exposed?

If so, might accept a bit of a discount and a supplied and fitted space saver. Really can't live with just a puncture kit given where I do most of my driving.

Retail on the parts to put the car back as originally specced is looking a little...well...

So far there is no word from Toyota HQ on amending the options or accessories listings with a space saver spare, and at this stage definitely only comes with the repair kit. Also none of the bulletins sent through indicate what they plan to do with the flooring.

If it's a deal breaker for you, just ask your dealer if they will supply a space saver for you, as mentioned previously in this thread a WRX space saver will do the trick, and can be easily sourced.

Since the car was designed to fit four wheels and tyres in the car (including the well) its safe to assume that the floor doesn't change. Other markets get space savers or tyre repair kit and still have the well. They won't change one of the quirky selling points of this car, especially something add difficult to change add floor panels.

Everyone just breathe. This is a Toyota Australia decision only. The car itself remains the same.

Yea I don't really think it's that big of a deal...
Got a spare wheel: Sweet!
No spare: More room for fully sick subwoofer! And no ugly donut in the boot.

I really hope people don't vent their anger at dealers - they really played no part in this.

What TMCA has done is dodgy and people have every right to be pissed off but just remember you are still getting a pretty good deal - this car came in much cheaper than what everyone expected.

EDIT: I take back what I said - just read on another forum that the wheel is $1036 from a Toyota dealer (no tyre).

So here are my thoughts..

Toyota can cut costs by replacing the full-sized spare with a tyre repair kit. For those of us who are already in a contract with delivery on September or after, we are obviously not getting what we originally thought we would get. And therefore have the right to cancel the contract. But given the long waiting lists, Toyota are probably pretty certain that anyone that pulls out will be quickly replaced with another customer almost ASAP. Thus, Toyota can pretty much cut corners now, and tell us customers that are in this position to get screwed or someone else will be happy to take your order?

That being said, I;m not going to cancel my order but from the moral/ethical standpoint of a consumer I still think it is wrong.

And I understand that for some owners, this is a good thing because you never wanted the full-size spare to begin with, but that doesn't mean that Toyota should be allowed to change the product of orders that are already in a contract.

Anyway. I have ordered a 86 myself for November delivery, so probably october build. And I'm not going to cancel it. I will probably try to get some freebies from my dealer (not sure how much bargaining power I'm going to have though)

And if anyone wants to swap their full-sized spare and cover for the repair kit, throw me a PM. My car is due for delivery in November.

If its that big a deal people can buy a 17" wheel and tyre for about $250 as a spare. They're not genuine Toyota rims, but its a spare that suits in the floor, or perhaps even at home when driving locally.
