If something happened to my 10Series I'd go out tomorrow and get a 2017 860 special edition Toyota 86 (provided the color looks better in person) or just get a 2017 Limited BR-Z. If something happened to it a year or so later I'd hold out to see what's in store for the 2nd Gen twins.

I've had mine going on 3 years, so not necessarily "several," but as long as I've had it I have been into it. I haven't seriously considered anything else for even a second.
I love it. I'd buy it again and again, : ).

I have a 2013 BRZ which I bought about a year and a half ago. I'd say after all this time, no, I would not buy one again.
It's fun to drive and small enough where I can easily find parking here in NYC. But that's also where the biggest problem lies for me - it's too small to be of any practicality. The trunk is tiny, the back seats are big enough for some small grocery bags. But that's about it. I underestimated just how impractical this car is when I bought it. I initially bought it because it was small and I used to park on the street, so it was easy to find parking compared to my previous daily - '02 Maxima; and also because I wanted something fun to drive daily. Another problem is the lack of power. When I initially test drove it, it seemed to have just enough power to be fun, but over time I started noticing it's true lack of power. I mean sure there are a shit ton of mods for the car, but they cost a pretty penny to make the car relatively fast. Not to mention the potential problems as a result of those mods. So all in all, it was good for a while but nope, would not buy an 86 type of car again. Thinking of selling mine for 2015/2016 Challenger RT. |

I've enjoyed every minute in my BRZ the last 4+ years. If I wasn't in the market for a new house, I'd seriously consider buying a 2017 BRZ too.
Since you're coming from a Prelude, the BRZ power should be enough for you. And despite all the "problems" you read about on the internet, it's actually a very reliable car. Never left me stranded once, or gave me issues where I couldn't trust to take it on a cross country trip; I've taken it on several 10-18 hr trips too. And I modded mine's from day one (screw the warranty lol). Last edited by reeves; 04-28-2017 at 04:14 PM. |

Maybe the question should be...having the same financial situation and knowing what I have learned about the vehicle in owning it and considering my set of unique requirements I want from it (everyone has different requirements), would I buy it right now?
The answer...YES! Would I still add the Edelbrock Supercharger? YES! Would I have bought it knowing I could not modify it in any way except aesthetically?...YES! That's a testament to how good this car is for me...there is just nothing else out there right now that's better for the money for me.

I had a 2013 FRS, sold it. Went back to riding motorcycles for a few years, searched and searched for the next purchase but wasn't pleased with anything on the market and didn't want to invest a ton of money into a 15 year old car to take to the track and have fun, bought a 2017 PP BRZ. No Regrets!
This is an awesome platform, for so many different types of people. |
