this angers me even more that it's a secondary 'option' on a supposed 'performance car'...

At least it's offered
Imagine spending $45k on a hot hatch and getting 300 hp mated to an open diff. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...orks-gp-price/ Hyundai and Honda are the only ones actually trying to win over enthusiasts. VW and Ford just tarted up their economy cars and Subaru hasn't touched the STI powertrain in a decade, it's not even a competition these days. |

If internal politics is halting development of their products, there's no "being fair" that company is going to die.

I mean, if the next STi isn't an improvement in anyway over the last, I'd say they are already dead. At least in the eyes of the enthusiasts.

But with literally nobody else making a decent AWD rally inspired car or a lightweight affordable RWD coupe these days, they don't have to try, they have market segments with literally zero competition. |

It might not be as raw or unfiltered as a CTR or VN, but the mk7 GTI is certainly great in its own right, especially if you can't stomach the looks of the CTR or the interior of the VN.

The STI is now only a nice family car riding on the coat tails of past glory.
https://www.wrc.com/en/ My 2015 STI was uninspiring. I actually concidered it a poor purchase, maybe if you need an AWD vehicle to get around due to geographical or environmental reasons, but for performance and fun as a daily driver, it was sorely lacking. My 86 is twice the fun as the STI ever was, even after tuning the STI. And now with only a little boost, the 86 outperforms the STI everywhere but in the wet. Meh, bored rant

I would save some extra dollars and/or go into more debt to own the CTR then I haven’t driven a Veloster N so I shouldn’t be too harsh on it. And it’s very cool Hyundai even makes a car like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

50 years ago Honda was a company that made shitbox scooters. Gotta start somewhere and Hyundai is finally taking steps in the right direction, I'd absolutely test drive a VN vs a CTR.

You’re right, keeping an open mind is always a good thing. Reviews are very positive, and if I was shopping for a hot hatch the Veloster N would be on the list. I feel like I’m spoiled by my FR-S now. Even though the N will feel faster, it’s hard to replace a lightweight, RWD, tight 6 speed, sublime handling, no frills sports car. I know it sounds kind of crazy, but a Porsche Cayman S is the only car that seems better. I recently test drove one with my brother, and oh yeah, it would satisfy all of those wants in a sports car.
