Except that it's also integrated directly into the user interface and system control too.

Most people that I know who bought the original kinect said it's cool but it's got latency problems and no devs are really taking advantage of it. Well, both of those issues have been addressed in the new version.

But as others have pointed out as well, it doesn't really matter. Nothing MS could do would get you to buy one.

Right... Cause saying XBOX ON is far more intuitive than pushing a button for half a second...

And how does Vista and Windows 8 being for non-high-tech-savy people make them fuck people over? So you mean they tried to fuck everyone over by making a more user friendly interface so they could reach out to more of the general masses in hopes of increasing sales? Oh yeah, my butthole definitely hurts from MS pulling that one off.
Wins 8 is not user-friendly for those who are not really involved with different OS--meaning don't love technology to the point where they will go in more detail then they have to learning a new product. New computers lately ONLY have win8 and to get win7 you have to cough up 200 something odd USD for it.

Believing microsoft fucks people over? Yes. You either have to "deal" with win8, get on apple or pay (unless your Uni provides you with free win7) for a win7 key+installation CD.

And how is Win8 user friendly? Putting a touch-screen based OS on a non-touch screen pc/laptop.

And calm down. We're all here (most) trying to have a civil debate/discussion.

You know that you can get rid of the tiles and use windows 8 exactly like windows 7, right?

Honestly, they just can't win. It's either "they never innovative or change anything, just rehash out the same product every time" or "they changed things! What's wrong with them! The old way was just fine!"

Goodness these people are worse than trying to figure out a place to eat with a picky, indecisive girlfriend. It's just a no-win scenario. She won't be pleased no matter what you do.

I never heard of it but... I also heard MS finally going to update the win8 OS to return the start button and the bar.

I guess that's a good thing! :P

Yup. It's 'cause they're the original Evil Empire (TM).

It does have a little bit of latency problems but not too horrible. My biggest gripe about it is that eventually I ended up using it as a voice control device first and a head tracker for Forza second, and eventually it only did the second well all the time. You know how you're supposed to have to say "Xbox <command>" to get it to respond? Well, it decided that it one day it just doesn't give a crap anymore and will respond to words without the "Xbox" command. Example: We're watching something on Netflix, and it picks up some voice command and starts rewinding, or fast forwarding, or stops, or worst, sends us back to the home screen. I eventually unhooked it and now it's just collecting dust. If they could fix that for me I'd absolutely plug it back in.

If you don't already have a programmable macro remote, and if you have smart devices, yes, it helps far more than most people would be willing to admit at first. But my understanding is you have to have devices that recognize the commands passed through HDMI so the Xbox can turn on your receiver, TV, etc. Sounds very similar to a Harmony remote to me, and mine is freaking wonderful. Press "Play Xbox" and having it turn on the TV, the receiver, the Xbox, switch everything to the correct AV input all in a macro. Then "Watch TV" and it powers down the Xbox, switches the AV and TV inputs to the correct ones.. I'll never go back to having three remotes.

Win8 is as user friendly as you want to make it. Some people are incredibly resistant to change, and some are ready to adopt it. I've been using it daily for work and at home and it's become second nature to me. Let's go back though.. Going from command line to GUI was a huge change. And going from Windows 7 to Apple OS is no easier than just getting used to things in Win8 being in a slightly different location. I can't say they're screwing you by "forcing" you to buy Win8 though. Part of the cost of the computer you're buying includes the OS, and if you order direct in most cases you can still get Win7 if you really want it. But in that case you're just postponing the inevitable because Microsoft shows no signs at all of getting away from their Metro interface. Even the new start button just brings up the metro screen. It's their way of making mobile and desktop OSes unified. Maybe it's not the best way to go about it, but I guess eventually change had to happen. At least you don't have to have a Kinect and a DRM check to use your computer.

First, you don't know from text how my attitude/calmness is. Just because I am disagreeing with you, does not make me the angry one. I wasn't the one that started throwing around "fuck" into whatever Microsoft does or doesn't do.

My wife is mildy tech-savy and she figured out Windows 8 just fine. Just because it is different, does not mean it is more or less user-friendly. Obviously the most user-friendly is just to keep it that exact same. You are correct, Windows 8 on a non-touchscreen is pointless. But Windows 8 was designed to be used with a touchscreen. What is the big deal? Did you want them to start putting touchscreens on a Windows 7 like OS, that has no useful touchscreen features?

I don't understand what you mean when you say you "have to deal with Windows 8"? When you order a custom computer or build it yourself, you can order whichever operating system you want. Most already built computers from places like Best Buy come with Windows 8 already installed because that is what the computer manufacturer chose to put on there in hopes of selling the computer to people like my mom.

You guys have been acting like Microsoft forces you at gun point to use whatever they want. You sound like all of the fat people complaining that McDonald's forced them super-size their order.

I'm fine using it but I don't like the fact that I have to see people struggle using it. I hate it due to the main reason that whenever I'm about to get a non-touchscreen laptop (not custom made) win8 comes standard and to downgrade would cost me an extra 150.

And ordering direct--yes I could do it but I'm not currently in that situation and not many people's situation allows them to buy direct. By either means of contacting the pc/laptop provider.

Forcing? I probably went off using that word incorrectly but you don't generally get that "option" when buying laptops around here.

I did not say to put win7 on a touch screen did I? I said that they were putting win8 into a non-touchscreen pc/laptop. What's the point of that?

And of course you can choose whichever OS you want when you build your own computer. My point is win8 (this pointed towards custom PC building sites) would make you pay that little extra for win7. So why?

And you really have a negative temper. I'm putting out my discussion and you want to actually start a bad blood feud.

What discussion? All this thread has been is a bashing/defending Microsoft or "why buy a console if you can build a PC?" thread...

I am sorry if I hurt your feelings though while trying to defend Microsoft while you guys sat around and called it an evil corporation that was just out to fuck over everyone...

And just fyi, you can check out all of my posts in this thread, every single one has been in defending something be it "evil microsoft" or "stupid console gamers", not bashing it. Definitely a negative temper.
