Interesting. I don't know what folks are running for street, but out of several options I think I'd start with 285/30-18 ZII's all around. Spec tread width on those is 10.7" vs 8.7" on 235/40-17's. 3250/10.7 ~= 2630/8.7

Now I know this is way simplistic and analyses with sprung/unsprung masses, cg and roll center positions, etc are required to really compare. Hopefully that would show a decent advantage for the 86, because 3250/332hp is no question way better than 2630/200hp! ;-)

Did your co-driver from nationals Mr. Laughlin jump ship to a different car?

I see he's registered for the Match tour in an Rx8....

I'm on the fence for that event, I love Wilmington, but I really prefer the traditional National Tour 3 + 3 format over Match tours and even Pro's.

4+2 runs on the same exact course doesn't really do much for me, especially given our current index #'s.

I hope someone figures out that it would be better to use the new Pro index for Match tours instead of Rick Ruth's asinine index.

Almost makes me not want to drive to Atlanta for the Match tour.

For Match Tours, it really only matters for making the cut, after that you're on your dial-in. It's really not a bad compromise compared to last year.

Gotcha. I was thinking in terms of last year's setup. Though Im not good enough to get high enough for the knee-capped Pax to allow me to stay in

Well, you'd have to ask him, but I think he's still deciding - see above.

As alluded to by ABQ, if street can collectively get enough entries (roughly 25%), hopefully they will all get put in their own heat. Then, it won't matter how the street indexes compare to the non-street class indexes. You can count me out for making numbers, though, as I won't be there.

"k) Pro Shootout
...
Qualifying: The top in index per heat will qualify for the Pro Shootout with the following schedule for each number of heats.
...
4 Heats:
• For the Top 32, the top 8 drivers in index from each heat."

Not looking very likely... as of today there are 118 entries and 17 in Street (14.4%)... Street R currently has 17 no including ladies classes as well.

Well, you only need 17 more then (with no other non-street entries)! ;-)

Or, start lobbying whoever is going to setup the heats as to what other classes with 'tough' indexes should be grouped with street #-o

reverse conspiracy theorizing (or Self-fulfilling prophecy syndrome):

Don't you think that the vociferous complaints about PAX-capping is contributing to the lesser entries? Beyond just the normal scope of those particular PAX values meaning anything to the potential entrants?

Also, wilmington last year gives a much more interesting data point. Campbell entered his DSP bmw in SM because DSP wasn't going to make a class. And still Pax'd 12th out of 258. That PAX handicap he chose to give himself? .012

And if he raced on a DSP index? he'd have gotten 6th.

And above all of this, Wilmington is awesome, and any excuse is easily outweighed by how awesome the site is.

I'm undecided, but I may use Wilmington to decide which car to focus with this year. On paper I think the RX-8 may actually be a little quicker but if I can arrange it I'm going to try to run both of my cars at the same event (local) and compare.

Don't worry though, I'm posting from the garage in the middle of installing Konis on my BRZ, and my 235 ZII's should arrive in a few hours. :-)

I'm having a hard enough time deciding on tires, I can't imagine trying to choose between 2 cars in the same class

I have your answer; order Z2s, mount on the Volt, eat Mini Coopers alive?
