But some new guys don't know what they are looking for. They know what they want(ie more lows) but don't know to search for "coilovers" even then it's still stupid hard to find reliable info. When I decided I wanted to go low on coils I couldn't find anything but flame threads bashing any one who wanted to go lower than 1 inch drop. Just "get whatever is cheapest cuz it'll be trashed in 2 months. Stance cars are gay". Nowhere did it say definitively"for performance x and y are good, for lows f and g are good but g is better because k"

I think now that the trolls have gotten bored it's just normal folks in the thread and it seems we fairly well agree with OPs posting

See that is where the FAQ could help. There is one for suspension but you would be hard pressed to find it.
This also goes back to the whole do at least a little research before posting a question. If they don't even know what it is called how in the world do they know they want it? A guy showing up and saying "Yo I want to slam my car too one inch high and oh by the way what does camber mean?" is likely not ready too go to that extreme.

There is loads of really good non famed info in the tech threads but I do agree that it can be hard to sort through. I always just use Google and can usually have what I want in seconds.

Some of those "trolls" are the most helpful people here if asked a decent question.
People also need to realize that not every word is typed in anger and some are just joking (although yes some are jerks).

Thanks bro (I've never quoted so hopefully this posts in thread)

I'm not arguing with some people's unrealistic expectations but Noobs don't know how impractical done of these things are. Until someone tells them "lowering your car creates extreme negative camber that will have to be fixed with x or y" how would you know to look for "camber adjustment" sometimes search engines can be pretty unforgiving with your wording. If you don't know what to look for by it's technical name, it can't be found

I have seen that as the biggest problem with newbies asking questions and getting no help.

They don't really know what there looking for, because when your new to something you don't know. Telling someone to "search/google" something isn't helpful. There is so much info out there it becomes overwhelming.

Especially with things like Coilovers/Springs, camber and Tire sizes. Those things are SOOOO confusing for new people and trying to just "google it" never seems to help anyone.

Now if you told them to Google "coilovers" and "how a car is aligned" that would be helpful research for them to learn a great deal. If you know "adjustable springs" exist but don't know they are called "coilovers" how do you search for it?

Guys, lets not communicate anymore. Only the members from 2013 were allowed to posts stupid questions. Everyone else onward is only allowed to use the search bar.

Honestly, frigg off guys.

Forums are meant for communication, if people didn't post you guys wouldn't have anything to talk about and the forum would be dead.

And no more posts of your cars either....we have enough pictures of the 86 now...no need for more....just use the search bar for someone with ray wheels and the color red....>__>

^^

Literally every forum is like this, even gardening based forums. The people that get butt hurt should move on to doing their own research outside of the forum cause your gonna get flamed even if you have a good idea in this type of environment.

Yep, you ain't seen nothing until you see a flame war on a model building forum because somebody put the wrong shade of camouflage paint for that historic month and year on a WW2 tank model. Or the ultimate of sins where somebody put 3 too many rivets on an 8 inch long airplane.
And you think people here get told to search? go on the model forum and ask if a 1942, May production, M4A1b Sherman tank should have rubber or steel track cleats. They will rip you to shreds and give you the titles of ten different $100 history books so you can "do your own research". Then if you do a build thread those same guys are all "oh that is wonderful. Nice job. I am going to build one of those. Should it have rubber or steel cleats?"

This place is down right warm and fuzzy in comparison.

I have answered about 8 direct to the point questions today with direct to the point answers. In all the cases the question was either not something common or was specific enough to be able to answer. If we answer every single base question with all the info needed to make sense there would be strings of threads all in a row saying exactly the same thing. I really enjoy answering questions when I can but sometimes they are just so unanswerable because they are subjective ("What colour should I wrap my car?", "what coilovers are the best?"), so broad that they can not be answered without writing a thesis (" how does direct injection work?"), just plain ridicules ("Show me a picture of your RPMs at start up") or so variable that any answer is meaningless ("how much do you guys pay in insurance").
When those big questions come up then I give them a link to where the info is already written. Pretty much every thing known about these cars is already here someplace and although the search sucks monkey butt a 10 minute browse through the right section will always reward the person with results.
Then they get to have the fun of trying to figure out which side of all the following debates is the right one but that is a whole different topic.
