Well those were the FRS version. I understand the BRZ's are flatter and have less curves.

I'm definitely not an expert. I was just shopping around for the same thing. For winter driving, it doesn't sound like vinyl will last the 6 years as paint protection. I was being given an estimated life of up to 4 years if driven in the winter. They could be conservative estimates though.

Actually there are a bunch of bars within two blocks of where I work and right across the street is a methadone clinic (and the car was parked right in front of it that day) so there are constantly lots of f'ed up people around.

Touch it up.
Wash it well.
Get a clear bra.
You can either put it on yourself with ebay vinyl wrap for about $30 or have someone do it for around 300. Rock chips are a pain especially with semi who have rocks stock to their wheels etc. You can ask @Tcoat how much it would be to get your car repainted in a small area. I myself had to get my whitout front bumper and hood repainted but insurance said nope due to it costing around 8k for painting alone.

Simply put:
Put a bra before it sags

Have seen bumper repaint prices stated on here from around $300 all the way to $2000. Obviously the prices fluctuate greatly based on region and quality.
$8k for a bumper and hood repaint would be highway robbery no matter where you are.

Thanks to a Winter of commuting on I-80 in Pennsylvania, my FR-S has thousands of chips on the bumper and chips the length of the hood, tiny nicks all over the windshield and even more chips along the front edge of the roof. It's still a hoot to drive. Now i'm in Northern California and people are forever rolling down their windows at stop lights to say how much they like my car.

The paint on these cars is my biggest gripe with it.

That being said, you have a few options. Your best bet would be to get a clear bra; I was really adverse to this, but after having mine for over a year now - and several big scares with larger objects (thick sticks, empty milk jug, hard plastic cup, etc) being kicked up at my bumper - I don't ever regret it.

I got the Xpel Ultimate ("self healing") shield, and Suntek makes a similar version as well (they both look the same). These are ultra thin, and high strength. I think when it comes to being a perfectionist I am just about as picky as they come, and I did have a few issues with mine initially, but it is extremely difficult to see, it hasn't changed the look or sheen of the paint at all, and it has protected it all the while.

Your other options are to repaint your bumper in 2 - 5 years, and tell yourself you're not going to worry about it in the mean time, or you could get one of the Colgan Custom car bras made for your car (a legitimate black leather-like bra). That way, you can put it on when you go on longer trips, or know you'll be doing a lot of commuting on the highway, and still have the ability to remove it whenever you don't want it on the car.
