Gears?? Replacement Trans?? Or LS Swap??

It's been an interesting read (thread) so far. I've been through three high performance clutches already and finally shat something in the transmission (pushing 450whp @ 22psi). Hard pulls though and yeah...I like being rough on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

Debating on these gears but the synchros need upgrading as well. I wonder if the group buy has started and what type of deal we can work out on getting a transmission built. Or should I have a local transmission company put these in if I get them?

Otherwise, I'm debating on using the money to just do an LS swap and try to escape from more of a money pit. Probably will sell my built FA20 engine OR build a rat rod with the engine. Either way, I would like to be finished with my FT86 build for a while and just enjoy the car...but things keep breaking haha.

OP, let me know on those gears tho. I'm on the edge but I'm also considering it. Thanks.

All costs considered, wouldn't a v160 FBM conversion be a better solution?

its around $5k for a used v160 alone. around $10k all said and done. don't get me wrong, the v160 is a beast, if a gearset in the stock trans still isn't enough its a very solid option. if i manage to kill the helical gearset im having built ill be doing something strictly for drag racing/ street driving only at that point. my car was not built for autocross/road course so i doubt many people would want the option we mapped out

The dog teeth and synchronizer cones do appear to be welded to each gear. Forgive my ignorance, I presume this a potential strength issue? I've only worked with OEM transmission parts, never bothered to look for welds, but it occurs to me somewhere in memory that I don't recall seeing welds on a set of stock gears. How else do you cut two conflicting tooth profiles onto the same piece though? Besides milling each gear rather than cutting it but that seems...expensive.

Before somebody goes all off-topic-ignorant-flame's-the-shit-out-of-it on my post, yes I said dog teeth. No it isn't a dog box. Yes, those gears are still synchromesh, and yes, they're called dog teeth.

I dont know the answer to that exactly, but what I do know is that in the last year and a half that Ive been trying to get various companies to build me gears - it was always that welded gears were looked upon as the lower, weaker way to go.

From what I gather they had a few sets made to offset cost of only 1 set and they are testing them.
I hear they are installed in a trans for testing.

Oh really? I'd only heard of Ryan who had a set. Last I heard there was an issue in the manufacturing process that was preventing him from installing them.

They are not installed yet, correct. He's working with Jacks transmission to have them installed, but up until this last weekend, they aren't in the car yet.

Well I certainly can't wait for results. I'd rather have this than a v160. If this gearset doesn't explode.

from PAR told me is that these gears have been thru a 12 hour endurance race in a 670whp car. I think I'll be getting these as well! They gave me some info on a group rate if anyone wants in. If not I'll be ordering soon.
