BRZ/FRS AZ6 Manual Trans Upgraded Gearset

UPDATE: Jack's Transmissions, the shop we worked with to literally get this gearset up and running is now the official US supplier of this gearset. It was a serious process to get everything up and running with PAR, but now they're ready to rock. Shoot me a PM for Jack's contact info, they'll get you taken care of. If you know anything about them, they stand behind everything they do, can't recommend them enough.

Hey guys,

Wanted to get the community in on something we're working with.

Some of you know about the #RevvProjectBRZ which made 630rwhp (more to go), and naturally with that type of power we were just munching through stock transmissions.

In our efforts to find alternative solutions (V160, R154, TKO, T56 etc), we kept coming back to available upgrades for the AZ6 (or lack thereof).

Finally one of our partners that our trans shop regularly works with just came out with a 1st-6th straight cut syncro set, full gearset for our platform. These guys have a ton of experience in the other-platform (Miata, S2000 etc) AZ6 and are stating that the set will be able to hold more than 700 ft-lbs.

I've been able to talk them into a small group buy, 5 total sets.

If you're making more than 500whp, you have to ask yourself: how many transmissions will you be going through until it's time to upgrade?

Set includes:
Input shaft
Output shaft
Layshaft
1st gear
2nd gear
3rd gear
4th gear
6th driving gear
6th driven gear
Intermediate gear

-1st - 6th Straight Cut Synchromesh Gearset
-Shift and drive like standard with a mild whine. “Due to the way that we manufacture the outbreaks they’re not terribly noisy due to the accuracy”
-All gears are case carburized heat treated & cryogenically treated & shot peened
-No extra cost for custom ratios, but comes with an 8 weeks lead time
-Non-custom gear ratio is close to stock

PM me for additional details to not piss off the mods

@Reaper, @Element Tuning, this may be a decent fix for your 4th gear issues.

Was just about to mention Reaper lol

I'm tired of keeping a spare transmission in my living room... Pmd for more info. :)

Me reaper and element I think are the most actively destructive drivetrain members. Haha

Hot diggity damn!

6th gear helical possible?

Pkush 05-21-2015 04:26 PM

Ugh, I'm driving my stock brz with no turbo or anything but I am still VERY curious on how much that costs...can you pm me with the price too please? :)

Reaper 05-21-2015 05:17 PM

6k before install

cdrazic93 05-21-2015 07:26 PM

The hell is it made out of, adimantium?

gramicci101 05-21-2015 07:42 PM

Well, he's basically custom cutting five complete sets of transmission gears and that's it. If it were a regular thing with an established process in place then I'm sure it would be cheaper.

$6k isn't bad for a short run custom gear set.

Also, the S2000 did not come with an Aisin transmission. It's not any form of the AZ6. This is rather obvious when you put them next to each other.

It's supposedly a derivative. Case design doesn't really matter too much when it comes to their designations (L, G, W, R series transmissions each have variations that look quite different)

There's also been transmission shops that have torn both of them down and noticed the similarities.

Regardless, the AZ6 we have isn't the same as the other AZ6's out there anyway as it's also heavily modified.

I wonder how this will be to drive on the street. Ive driven cars with straight cut gears theyre a bitch.

churchx 05-22-2015 08:30 AM

It will be much noisier at very least, i guess.
