Hard to believe I wasted 30 seconds of my life reading beyond the first post in this thread.

yea i have done my best to let it warm up for about 2 minutes maximum. Then let the engine warm herself up as i drive slowly until up to regular temp.

I've never been a big fan of warming up the engine, even in extreme cold. I start, make sure it's running normally and move on, may 15 to 30 seconds at most.

I suppose there is some logic to warming it up to operating temp, but since I've owned multiple cars that went beyond 200K miles I figure I'm doing OK.

OH you misunderstood me!
I was not talking about warming up the engine. It drops out of high idle I am outta there.
I am talking about warming up the car.
When there is a 1/2 inch of ice on the windows from rapidly falling snow falling on your recently parked and still warm car and then freezing there is no amount of scrapping that will clear it until you soften it up a bit. This can take up to 10 minutes with car running and heater blasting.
There are valid reasons why ours come standard with heated mirrors as well!

You are correct, I did misunderstand, and yes I have done that for the same reason.

Wednesday at -22 I had to let it run for 20 minutes to get the windshield cleaned and even then as soon as I started to move the fresh snow started freezing again at the top of the windshield.
And the stock wipers do not deal well with ice at all! The nice streamlined top on them captures and holds ever single drop of melted snow and freezes it into a solid block making the wipers completely ineffective.

Sounds like its time to move to Georgia where when it looks like snow you get to stay home, and we have Grits.

Yeah, modern engines don't need to warm up. I do the same as you. Let the idle settle down after startup and take off after 30-60 seconds. I just drive gingerly until she comes up to operating temp.

That was included in the first 30. Writing this consumed another 15 seconds of my life that I shall never, ever be able to regain.

Just FYI, to determine miles per gallon, you need 2 pieces of data, miles, and gallons.

Days and tankfulls are not very meaningful.
