Prior to the FRS, I had a '12 C350 Coupe, powerfully smooth Mercedes, before that I had a '07 350Z - gobs of torque and a beautiful note on the higher revving engine. I decided to give some smaller FWD cars a chance and really enjoyed most of them. I had the HIGHEST hopes for the Abarth, but was very disappointed.

Tried out all these cars in the same day:

'14 BRZ - this is what made me fall in love with the Twins instantly (first car of the set I drove)
'13 STI - always dreaming of an STI, I didn't find this car particularly thrilling (surprisingly)
'13 Fiesta ST - thought it was too small and expensive
'13 Focus ST - really enjoyed this car during test drive
'13 Mini Cooper S Hatch - found the ride to be a bit too stiff
'13 Golf GTI Driver's Edition - loved the luxuriousness & DSG
'13 Fiat Abarth - loads of discounting, but seating position was horrible for me, sounds great though

driving a Fiat is like riding a horse. The seating position is sooooooooo high.

A simple tune totally wakes up STi.

Renault Sport Megane or Clio. And the all-new Civic Type R. Unfortunately, neither of those are and will be available stateside.

I didn't consider any FWD cars since I came from owning one for five years. I was in the market for an S2000, but the ones I was considered increased in value significantly over the past 3 years. The GTI was equally fun and practical, but I think I sort of outgrew it. I also wanted to learn how to drive better with RWD.

Those with all the hate for FWD sound pretty ignorant, unless it's only preference. When comparing cars around 200hp, there's not much difference in overall speed, and there can be plenty of fun to be had in a FWD car. Yes, there are several disadvantages to FWD, but often times, people are too ignorant to simply enjoy it.

I had loads of fun on the track and in the mountains with my Mk4 GTI 337 Edition for the five years I owned it. It was never the fastest car, but it was a very easy and forgiving car to drive at the limit, so I was able to be more consistent. I could sometimes outdrive others in RWD cars with similar power. I had a few modifications to make it less prone to understeer (larger rear sway bar, Audi TT/R32 front control arms and spindles), and it was much easier to get the car to rotate. With a chipped ECU, it had about 100 lb/ft more torque than the BRZ, and I also didn't have to wait until 6000 rpm for peak torque.

I admit my driving skill is nowhere close to what I want it to be, but neither are many of those who are blindly criticizing FWD. I doubt many of you could extract the full potential from a 200hp FWD car, let alone a 200hp RWD car.

For those bashing FWD...yes, RWD is almost always more fun, but I had an absolute blast driving an older Integra Type R years ago...now good luck finding one that hasn't been stolen, wrecked, or modified to the gills...

Renault Sport Megane and new Seat Leon Cupra. New 280 bhp Cupra just recorded under 8 minute time in Nürburgring which is sick for a FWD car. That is better time than Audi R8 V8 or Corvette C6 Z51.

Cupra was really tempting but since I'm already driving new Leon FR I was afraid that it will be too similar as my current car, even it has almost 100 bhp more.

For looks and handling wise, I couldn't find anything better than BRZ (anything I could afford).

I contemplate selling my BRZ at times, and if I had a brain last year and didn't buy my old Outback XT, I'd probably be driving an older Focus or Mazda 3.

There's Rear Wheel Drive, then perhaps, maybe, for certain driving conditions, All Wheel Drive or Four Wheel Drive, but what's left after that is just Wrong Wheel Drive.

No FWD (AKA WWD) cars were considered.
