I took mine into the dealership because it's starting to get lose when I adjust the mirror and it rattles over bumps. They said that the mirror parts are in back order because everyone's coming back, apparently. And that it's covered under warranty so I don't have to worry about paying. I just got to go back again once they've got the parts and called me. FWIW they said the install will take only 30 min, so I'm not thinking it'll be a PITA to bring it in.

It was the first time I've set foot in a service department in a dealership in... like 9 years. Last time was for my Celica's Fuel Injector TSB. Long time ago...

When I bring it in next time, I'll probably ask them about the chirping too and see if they can document my car.

i was at the dealer today as well as mine was rattling and then ultimately fell off as the mounting plate got stripped. same deal... parts backordered. i'm hoping there's a revised part but i'm not getting my hopes up. luckily they had a regular mirror they were able to give me for the time being since it wouldn't stay on at all now

It's no big deal that a part like the rear view mirror should fall off during normal operating conditions, or that they have not had a re-call to replace every cars mount with a new one that is a secure design....it's not like it is a safety issue or anything...LOLOLOL

Weird. I ordered mine the other day for $7 and it's shipped. I guess the dealer had one in stock.

Yeah... seriously...
AFAIK they should cover the "safety" defects event without warranty. Not sure how Subaru is, or even Scion.

I had a '04 Accord Coupe previously, and its driver's seatbelt buckle would be defective, leading to the SRS airbag light coming on. The car was already out of warranty for both miles and years, but the dealership took it in and replaced the seatbelt buckle at no charge because it was considered a safety issue.

I would have imagined the mirror to be a safety issue as well, but I can't say for sure. It's probably not as important as a seat belt harness, though.

mine fell off twice, had it fixed the second time, now it seems stable. i'm wondering if it's the weight of the homelink mirror or if it's the heat that's causing it to fail?

anyhow, the shearings came out with it the first time.

Mine started to wobble more than usual earlier in the week, and drooped enough I was looking at the back seat tonight. I could wiggle it, and then took it off to see what was going on. Yep, screws are stripped out. Dealer tomorrow.

Fell off. Home Depot, longer screws, 10 minutes. Rock solid for now. OEM screws are too short and tapered at the tip an there isnt enough meat left to hold it.

My 2010 Forester XT has the same mounting and it sucks. Fell off twice before I replaced the plate.

I talked to the service manager at my dealer yesterday, and as soon as I said, "rear view mirror fell off", he was checking to see if he had the parts in stock. He said they had gotten word that all the (autodim/homelink) mirrors were over torqued.

I bought two 8-32 x 3/4" flathead screws and used a screw cutter to trim them to 9/16" long. 5/8" is just a bit too long. It's holding for now.

parts came in yesterday for mine even though they were "backordered" and it's only been a few days. going to the dealer at 10 and hopefully they'll put it on properly this time
