$500 AU license cost ('MRT tax')
$990 AU RRP for custom dyno tune from ecutek tuners

Obviously there are ways to get the license for ~$300 (you don't need the cable).

The $990 tune is not time limited, it's a full dyno tune to whatever mod spec your car is at. When you consider the risk of running potentially unsafe AFR and needing to do illegal 3rd/4th gear pulls during the etuning process from American vendors as well as approx $150 for an hour of dyno work to validate their final tune AFR, which of course everyone should be doing... Pretty quickly the costs balance out.

I didn't realise you could just purchase the license only from them? How much are they selling them for? So that means I can still buy a license from an overseas vendor, then go to Tokyo and pay them for a custom dyno tune?

Yes you can definitely get a local tune, on an overseas license.

I bought mine before MRT even had the product to market for ft86 so a lot has changed since then. GL with your tuning!

The tune just has to be set to your ecutek dongle ID, so it is sellable
