This was with him right on my bumper which makes his lie even more bold. Who speeds with a cop knowingly behind them? As I said, I didn't end up getting the ticket since he took off supposedly on a missing child alert but he could have easily passed that ticket over like a jerk. Sorry to ruin the dream in here that quotas and cops lying are myths. It happens. Most are probably honest but there's always bad apples even in a police uniform. |

I think you missed my point: “and admit they didn’t clock me”. The guy’s original post made it sound as if he knew the cop didn’t actually clock him. I was simply trying to ask how he knew the cop didn’t clock him. I was saying I’ve never had a cop admit they didn’t actually know how fast I was going. Well, I have been pulled over and had a cop say, “I didn’t clock you but you were going way to fucking fast”. Then let me go. Of course there are bad apples. I skateboarded from 10 years old until I was about 20 which is when I switched my focus to cars and autoxing. I had hundreds of experiences with cops in my skating years. I only had one bad experience where cops took our boards and threw us in the car just to turn us loose with our boards 30mins later. I could go on and on telling you stories about funny interactions with cops though. Once I got into the car thing I continued to have lots of interactions with cops. I’ve only had a handful of bad experiences there either. When I say bad I am simply referring to shit attitudes but ended up driving off without a ticket. My driving record is 5 pages long. None of those were unjust or bad experiences. One time I went flying around a turn at 90mph and then dropped back to the limit after completing the turn. Not because I saw the cop but because speeding in a straight line isn’t all that entertaining. About 5 mins later the cop caught up to me and pulled me over. “Is there some reason why you are driving like an asshole” my response “I’m not going to lie I was just having fun”. He let me go. I’ve been let go WAY more times than I’ve actually been ticketed. Cops get paid to write tickets. No need to assume they are assholes simply because you broke the law and they are doing their job. I’m not saying you weren’t wrongly accused of speeding. I’m just saying in general I think people take it personal any time a cop pulls them over. I think I have gotten off so many times because I stay calm, don’t make up BS excuses and don’t come off as being aggravated that I was pulled over. The cop hating is so viral right now. |

I hear you on that. A lot of they hate the get is unjustified. Pulling people over unmercifully for extra revenue doesn't help their reputation though.
I also got out of a few tickets because the cop was being decent. Of course that was the days before the radar detector. Now other than that one recent stop I mentioned there when I wasn't even speeding, they just don't catch me off guard any more. |

they're just going at a safe speed with the flow of traffic and get picked out randomly because the cop doesn't like the color orange on a car. ![]() We all have gone over the limit, sometimes even doubled or tripled it and not get caught. The thing is they can't give us a ticket later based on that or the fact they let us go in the past with a warning. If they can't catch us going over the limit at an unsafe speed, they should leave us alone and keep a better eye on the roads for erratic drivers who are the actual cause of accidents. Speed does not kill, bad driving does. Here is an article by an engineer explaining why posted speed limits are increasing for safety reasons: http://www.sehinc.com/news/truth-abo...ained-engineer I suggest the dashcam in cases where police want to "stretch the truth" of the facts, radar detector to keep 99% of them off your back, using a app like Waze to have other drivers to give you a heads up and better situational awareness like understanding where a speed trap usually exists. Use all those tools and we won't be having this conversation about beating useless 8 pmh over speed tickets and the police will have more time on their hands to get the real offenders causing major accidents and deaths cutting people off, swerving around texting/talking on their phones, driving drunk/impaired, sloppily pulling out into traffic, etc. When we get to fully automated driving it makes you wonder where all that lost revenue from speeding tickets will be made up from. You know they are dreading that day because no tickets = no money. I think we all know by now that the legal system is wickedly set up to keep money flowing in. Not that I have been sucked into it but everybody must know somebody who has been in serious trouble with the law before and witnessed how they are drained for every dollar the gov't can get from them for one incident then held on by a short leash so when the slip up, they are pulled right back in and drained for more cash. It's no secret that our justice system is highly flawed and relies too much on people making mistakes to keep their door open for business. Just look at legalizing marijuana and it's effects thus far. No more arrests and fines from people getting caught with it so where does the government make up the difference...taxing it. It's not aboutkeeping people safe, it's all about keeping the government stockpiled with our money however they can get it from us the same as most "speeding" tickets. |

8mph over in a neighborhood does kill. But I agree that 8 over on an interstate or highway isn’t a big deal. I totally agree that the cops should spend more money on the crap that really does cause accidents. Tailgating, texting, etc etc. tailgating being at the top. Tailgating causes so many problems. Not just accidents but also when people are trying to merge. People ride as close as they can when near a merging lane for fear that someone may get in front of them. People are so stupid. One car length at 60mph amounts to milliseconds. In an attempt to save milliseconds they end up screwing up the flow of traffic for everyone and end up costing everyone much more time. My commute home from work without traffic takes 15mins but in rush hour with all the asshole drivers it takes me an hour. The texting is so frustrating too. They take a text break and nearly rear end someone and then take another text break while they are at a stand still and not realize traffic started moving again.
I could go on and on about this topic. So frustrating. The problem is speeding tickets are kind of black and white. Your either over the limit or your not. When cars start driving for us they will just apply higher gas taxes. When everything is electric (or should I say coal powered) they will use GPS to track our milage and tax is on that. |

This doesn't make me happy at all but it is also not the cop's fault in any way. I am 100% against paying people to run radar on the highway and harass people. That said, I am also 100% pro-police force. When the clowns that we put in office cut their funding, they're faced with the choice of giving out unnecessary tickets or trying to scrape by being grossly underfunded. That's not a good position in which to put a highly trained and equipped force tasked with the safety of the public. It isn't a grateful one either, seeing as how they put their lives on the line every day for the rest of us. That's the real problem and that is who is causing it. Don't like it? Vote people in who actually know how to prioritize government spending. |

Back when I was a little shit teenager constantly getting in trouble I hated cops. Now that I don't drive like an asshole and do dumb shit all the time, cops don't bother me and I've come to realize most of them are pretty cool!
ProTip: Don't be an asshole and cops generally won't fuck with you. |
