Tips for beating speeding tickets
Hey I recently got a bs ticket from a local cop for 13 mph over the limit. I was not actually got on radar and the person in front of me was caught and they nicked me because I was behind her going down a hill. I totally intend on fighting this ticket because I wasn't going 13mph over only about 8mph over and I was not caught on radar. It was end of the month and the cop was clearly writing chicken shit tickets to hit his a quota. This in in Ca NorCal btw.
Enough griping and complaining. What I'm asking is if anyone has tips or advice for fighting speeding tickets? All input is welcome |
I can't imagine you will get anywhere if even you are saying you were technically speeding. Kind of hard to go into court and say, yes I am guilty but not as guilty as the ticket says I am.
Is there any points difference between 8 over and 13 over. In Florida 8 over and 13 over would have the same point impact. So even if you fight and get it lowered to 8 it wouldn't buy you much. I used to take tickets to court and plead no contest. The judge would ask a few questions to basically profile you. Speak proper English and be polite and they would wave the points but still make you pay the ticket. If you do this enough times they would start making you do a 4 hour driver safety class... then a 10 hour... after that you have to take a break for a while and stop speeding. Again, this is all in Florida. I use Waze at ALL times. I don't ride ass so I have more line of sight ahead so I can actually pay attention to everything on the road rather than just the bumper of the car ahead of me. This lets me spot cops before they spot me. I also don't camp in the left lane where cops focus their attention. I also just don't speed as much anymore. Hahaha |
and now on the inter-web, your case will go nowhere good for you....................nice you admitted guilt here for your speeding
|
Not speeding works for me every time.

I'm not worried about admitting guilt for a minor traffic infraction. Of course when I get to court I will either plea that I was not speed or don't say anything and hope the judge doesn't add points or the cop doesn't show up or looses his notes.
I'm hoping the cop doesn't remember by the court date. |
Is it possible that the cop specifically targeted you because you refuse to run a front license plate?

But they couldn't see it because they where down the road and a car was in front of me. During the ticket I was worried they would get me again for missing front plate but nope. It was actually 2 cops hanging out and one ticketed the girl in front of me and the other ticketed me and I think he totally inflated the speed I was going. Cops in San Rafael Novato Petaluma area are total a holes and are known for chickenshit tickets to make up for them being lazy all month. I almost never see cops until the end of each month. |
i say just pay the fine or do the defensive driver's class :/ not worth the time trying to go to court to explain the amount you were speeding was not as much as the officer stated...even if the officer doesn't show up to court I'm pretty sure the court can still uphold your fine either way. personally i try to avoid ever going past 5 mph over the posted limit whenever i'm in town, not worth it..just wait until you're out in the canyons :)

Not true in Ca if the officer does not appear the Judge will rule in your favor and you get your money back and no points against you. My wife got off a ticket because the officer showed up but lost his notes, she won another time because the officer failed to show up. No cop = no argument saying you committed the violation so your testimony is only thing standing so you automatically win the case. I've never beat a ticket but missing a day of work is an acceptable gamble to beat a $200+ ticket. Not to mention if I win I avoid an additional $30-$50 traffic school payment. |
Out if curiosity how much $ does a 13 over cost in Cali?

I have hired a lawyer in the past for traffic tickets. It saved my license, but I still ended up with a fine and my lawyer fee. $750 fine + $1000 fee. Good luck!
My best tip: DON'T SPEED! Next tip: My stock 88db FR-S exhaust has NEVER got me pulled over. Unlike my 96db S2000 Exhaust... Ya'll be careful out there! |
For fighting a speeding ticket: Lawyer. Save your PJC.
For not getting a speeding ticket: Slow the F-down. Save gas on the commute. Hammer it on the race track. Good luck! - old guy who saves his money for autoX/track |

I'm sure plenty of cases/tickets do get dismissed but personally I would never bank on it...play with fire and you get burnt sometimes, that's all |
