I've gotten this problem a few times when it's cold - it always seems to happen after I take my car to the hills. Sometimes it won't fail to start up, but will start up really weakly instead and the car just feels sluggish for a while. During warmup the engine won't go over 1000 RPM either whereas normally it'll start up at 2000+ (I think) and then dip to ~1200-1500. Anyone else experience similar problems? Is it related to CA gas?

not sure if the issue is weather related, but i've had a slow start-up happen to me a handful of times since owning it (August 2012). it's always started on a single try but it just seems like a delayed 2-3 second start. it's really slow and almost seems like it's not going to make it, but in the end it starts.

Hey guys, Its been awhile since I posted back on this topic. I followed someones advice by letting the car prime first then starting the car...since then I never had the problem again.

I have an automatic with less then 300 miles. It has happened to me twice so far. Going for diagnostics tomorrow. It's been cold here in New York but nothing that would hinder a car from starting properly. It takes around three tries each time. I prime the engine, I don't park on an incline.

Very strange. I'm hoping to have some answers tomorrow.

Its happened once to me where it started on the first push but took longer than usual. Was not even a cold start since I had just driven to the store and was only in the store 15 min. Odd.

MissNyxxie..let us know what the dealer tells you but bet my bottom dollar they say "its fine" or "can't reproduce it"

I've had this issue as well, probably 4-5 times since owning with 8k on it. I haven't bothered with telling the dealer because they can't even handle the other issues and as BRZnut said, the dealer will say "Can't reproduce it."

happened a 2nd time for me today, 1900 miles on the car. It's an AT. The first time was as described but today, it just kept trying to turn over and as i let the key turn back to the "on" position, the engine randomly started. I turned the car off and it turned on no problem the second time.

I am getting this as well. When I was in for service last Saturday, they replaced my battery but it seems the issue is still with me although not as bad yet.

I have 2500 miles on my Manual Push button BRZ. Three times in teh past i have pushed the start button and the car cranked for about 5-6 seconds then stumbled to start. It was like a strong crank..but reminded me of having to pump the gas on an old ford pickup. It happens randomnly in cool weather 50-65 degrees. May be the quality of gas (only 91 octaine around here) or something else im not sure. Either way when it does it my heart flutters as if the car is going to NOT start and just keep cranking.
