Not gonna lie, I want one. Love me a good SUV! My brother had a 2017 Mazda CX-9 and it was seriously such a nice drive. Subaru benchmarked that car for the dynamics on the Ascent so I have high hopes. The interior on the top-spec CX-9 was seriously unbeatable though; all aluminum, napa leather, and rose wood. Absolutely shit on anything else from Japan and even Germany. So if the Ascent can compare to that, it'll be a home run for sure.
I'll be patiently waiting for people to start pushing that 2.4l to see what breaks first. Also, inb4 Subaru puts it in the next STi. It is the next logical step of course.

Happy you guys like it. And yes, it drives EXTREMELY nicely. If you liked how a CX9 drove, you'll fall in love with this car. We didn't benchmark their car. We reset the benchmark. Honestly, all new SGP cars are such a huge step up from the older models.

"Codenamed TR8, the Ascent was developed in Japan but will be built at Subaru’s plant in Lafayette, Indiana. All 60,000 annual units are for North America; the plant can build more if needed."
Isn't the Lafayette plant already operating at something like 120%? Are they really able to accommodate more vehicles? OR did they expand recently and I didn't see it in the news. But yea, given people's love for all things Subaru and extremely cheap gas, if they don't blow through 100k a year at some point in the future I would be surprised. |

Until recently I owned both a 95 240SX and a Bugeye WRX. Although most people ditch the KA24DE for an imported SR20DET or other engine option, I chose to stick with the KA. For daily driving, a KA24DE with headers and exhaust is an absolute riot. The 240SX was MORE fun to drive than the WRX, even with half the power. Much of the reason was the smaller, RWD nature of the 240SX, but the responsiveness and torque of a higher displacement, NA engine certainly helped.
I am in the market for a new car and would love to buy a modern 240SX. The closest thing I have found is the GT86 platform. However, I have come to terms with the fact that the stock power train of the GT86 leaves much to be desired, at least for me. With Subaru having developed a new 2.4L turbo-charged engine for the Ascent, it stands to reason they could put the 2.4l naturally-aspirated engine into the BRZ/86. This change would likely bring the torque numbers up quite a bit and possibly eliminate the torque dip altogether. For me, this is much better than having to install an aftermarket header or SC kit. Please Subaru, if you are listening, bring a 240BRZ to market. |

I didn't say the KA24DE was faster, I said it was more fun to drive than the WRX.
And yes, I have driven a GT86 on 3 occasions. 2 NA and 1 SC. |

I could buy a 240SX, but I sold mine because it was getting old and I want something newer. But honestly, I would prefer to buy a BRZ with an FA24. :-)
Can you blame me for having hopes and dreams? |
