@Koji_Online Thanks for the write up!

Folks: I am starting to believe that performing the clutch pedal adjustment shown in the video will increase the life of the throwout bearing. This is how.
1. The current clutch travel is more than what is needed to release the clutch
2. This increases the finger spring deflection more than necessary for clutch actuation
3. The higher the spring deflection the higher the force
4. The force is taken by the bearing. So with the engine spinning at the same speed the bearing has to dissipate more heat due to additional friction from additional force.

So by adjusting the clutch we are effectively reducing the movement of the slave cylinder and hence the throwout bearing and if done right we can find the right balance. If there is too less of movement we are burning up the clutch disk and if there is too much movement we are burning up the throwout bearing.

As always I want to know what you folks think.

I did it today in about 10 minutes. Thanks for the very helpful explanation and video. Big improvement. Jim Rollwage

Finally tried this. Oh man that's much better. MTEC spring + height adjustment is very nice.

Finally did this today. The hardest part for sure is getting the rod to rotate. I found it easiest to rotate it a little bit each time I pumped the clutch pedal.

I have it sitting just under the brake pedal and get no grinding. I think I'm going to adjust it a little higher to sit even with the brake pedal height.

If you are worried about trying this, don't be. I'm not too mechanically savvy at all and it took me about 15 minutes

Riding the clutch has been a concern of mine since adjusting the pedal last year.
I was never sure so I was very conservative with the pedal height.

Thank you for this post!

Couldn't agree more! I did the same last weekend and have much smoother shifts. It also helped me find errors in my shifting to improve my driving!

Why the fuck is it the hardest bolt I've ever tried to break, all I've managed to do is strip the damn nut. Any tips on how to break the nut free?

I ended up getting it done right, was a huge pain in the ass for me. Question though, once you have it done is it supposed to feel smushy, and if so I'm assuming the Mtec spring fixes this issue?

I had this done almost 1 year ago. My clutch pedal is almost same level as brake with a little bit of slop. I am going to be installing either ACT HDD 6 puck clutch with Prolite FW/CM FX 400/South Bend stage 3 soon since it started slipping after turbo install. Will this mod affect the clutch engagement when I install new clutch? Do I need to re-adjust it?

I will also add the velox clutch fork and pivot bolt.

Any input is appreciated.

I drove a NC miata the other day and that thing had such short clutch travel and the pedal was off to the side, like where the dead pedal should have been (anyone know why that is?). That clutch felt amazing, which lead me to this thread.
I've been reading and debating about it, someone claims that this increases the life of the clutch spring or something like that, but more importantly are there long term negative concerns?? I'm aware the factory spec for clutch travel is 110 to 115 mm and idk if setting the clutch in line with the brake pedal falls within the spec

also just did this yesterday and i tried just below the brake pedal but found that there was almost immediate engagement off the floor, which i dont personally dig so i set mine at ever so slightly higher than the brake - there's a tiny bit of play at the top of the travel now, but the engagement point feels sooooooooo much nicer where im not pausing hitting the gas for the split second before i get the clutch up to the right spot not to buck.

i will say that there was no comfortable way to do it and i was laying my back on the doorsill for 10 minutes straight - that and i thought for sure that the bolts would be tighter than they were coming from the factory to loosen, but i returned them to about the initial tightness and everything seems fine.
