I got so damn sick and tired of the "white man" jokes about taking over the world, enslaving people, coming to new lands.
i was reading this, actually read the original Root article first

i got to it with this article

https://www.theatlantic.com/internat...oomers/602680/

i'm somewhat depressed after reading that. i have trouble seeing any outcome other than the one depicted in Hunger Games where the rich get richer, the poor poorer, and eventually the poor used for sport...

so the economics outside of the social stand point is key

what we are seeing in the US right now is what happened to india in the 80s, only their economy didnt go through a sort of depression or.. what do you wanna call 2008? recession?

and their government doesnt have the flexibility ours does to cope with its own market.

I like to find faith that we can still pull through and make it.

also.. i ate way too entirely much for being on shift.. we got food left over for the nights folks...

im also completely full on my eggnog intake for the year

No worries. When push comes to shove, the poor end up eating the rich.

Yea, one of his ideas to keep Californians out is to "trash the place" so they don't want to come. Brilliant!

The news reports that the biggest group moving to Treasure valley are people from other parts of Idaho, then Oregon, Utah, ... Cal is like 5th, but I guess Californians are an easy target.

I knew there would be some emotional challenges with such life changes. I'm all better now.

Had an excellent thanksgiving. Got a couple USDA prime ribeye steaks, did them in the sous vide, then seared on a red hot charcoal grill. Best steak I've ever had. It was like cutting room temp butter. So good.

Hope you all had a great thanksgiving, and you Canadians had a good Thursday.

Like you realize spain, china, any country between egypt and china, all had their own negative movements. hell India probably has the worst right now between their natives.
England takes a lot of flak for "colonizing" and changing so much of the world. Yes, they did but that is only because people only know the more recent history.
The fact that going all the way back to the Neolithic and extending to the Normans much of the population of what would eventually become England were wiped out by the next group to move in does not seem to be common knowledge since people think that the world started sometime around 1400.

There is likely not one square inch of land on the planet that is occupied by the people that originally settled there. To expect everybody to just leave everybody else alone is just not something that will ever happen.

I just read an article about the platform for mayor was keeping Californians from moving in. Boise I think. Its a tough spot. @humfrz is probably right. Maybe there are other outsiders feeling lost. Or even at home.

I've also been surprised to finally understand that the places I want to spend my time is because of the people, not the place. Amazing places without the right people to share just not the same, though I definitely need time without people to recharge.

Hanging in there. Get out, do things. The friends will happen.

What are you guys worried about? It's not like they are going to burn the place down...

The first few threads were entertaining. The last few were dull attempts at obvious trolling.

Well, that's good -

OBTW, when you first moved up there, did you bring anything to trade with the natives?

I figured as much. It's still a big deal for those of us that have experience being the outsiders. Moving to a new place involves traumatic loss as strong as any other. I counter with humor the same way I do with most shitty things that I have to endure.
