Context of modding it. Spending the same $ amount on wheels and tires, for example. The FT86 twins would probably see a better improvement than the Z. But the Z still has a head start, so to speak, and will still improve. But probably not by as much. Diminishing returns.

All I know is, nothing short of an engine swap will eliminate that horrible, coarse engine sound! I waited 3 years to drive a 370Z, and now that I'm finally in a financial position to afford one, I was ready to sell my 240Z and move up. What a disappointment! I'm so glad the FT86 twins came along just in time.

It also returns better fuel economy, so you'd burn less gas after your lapping session, too.
+1 This to me is the biggest advantage of the BRZ over the 370z. Over the lifetime of the car, it should be significantly cheaper to track/auto-x the car than a 370z. And as Subaru execs love to harp on about, you can throw in a set of track tires/wheels and a jack in the BRZ.

It probably doesn't mean exactly what I think, but it proves my original point that I didn't say I would swap IS-F for 10K.

i can never tell what you are arguing. are you trying to tell me that there is more room in the engine bay of an frs than a 370z? what is your orignial point and how does this prove it?

Ok, I was saying that if you want to go crazy with power, engine swap, and all that stuff, pick FR-S and save thousands. The engine bays of both cars are very comparable, 370Z doesn't have advantage here.

And then, I'm talking about realistic modification that I would want to do. FR-S/BRZ has more mod potential than the Z, IMO.

This thread has so much disinformation, speculation and downright idiocy I about fell out of my seat laughing. The 370z and FRS are so different in their target market and purpose that it is just unfair to try and compare them. The 370z is a fantastic car that outperforms cars well over its msrp. The FRS looks to be shaping up the same way. That being said, each car has their strengths and weaknesses.

By all means please spend 10k trying to make the FRS as fast as the Nissan. After your turbo kit you will no longer have a warranty, gas mileage and reliability the stool stock Nissan has.

I have a better idea: spend 2k on rims and ties then the rest of your hard earned money on HPDE events so you can actually learn how to drive.

Thank me later when your car still has a warranty and you have cars over 2x the price pulling over for you on the track.

I only want to debate because that way, we can see other people's reasoning .

I wouldn't say it unfair to compare both cars. Sure, 370Z outclasses BRZ/FR-S, but I see the little car has a lot of mod potential. No one here said, he would throw 10K mod right after getting the car. I personally would get a FI only if the car is out of warranty (if I want more power, but I doubt it).

Thanks for the suggestion. I also plan on having one.

We'll see what kind of mod potential it has. If the engine's crap (doesn't take to mods, etc.), this car is dead.

I wouldn't doubt it. Tuners are already developing various kinds of mods for the car.

Like the 290hp HKS supercharger Doubt they had time to make low comp pistons, although they might've had to really fiddle a lot with timing and such.

Another "plus" for the z is the relative street values are closer than MSRP would suggest. Next month the 2013 Z's come out. Excellent deals available through the end of the month. Probably some even better ones (although with fewer choices) next month.

There are a few of us here that think the VQ sounds awful. Can't say the FA sounds like heaven but it is better than the VQ imo.

But coming from a 1JZ with Apexi intake and N1 muffler, few motors (and none I can afford) impress me.
