Run Prime95 and stress test your CPU. See what temps you get from that.

Do not run prime 95, that program is complete shit now. For the last several years they have been changing it so that it causes more stress(every update) to a point where running it is so demanding(latest version) that a very stable build/oc may overheat or be unstable when running prime 95 as it is just too demanding and really is too much overkill. So much so that it can no longer be used to determine stability efficiently and can even damage a perfectly working non overclocked cpu (ask me how I know).

If you decide to get prime 95 do a bit of research and you'll quickly find a consensus on when the last decent/acceptable version of it was. There are also several better suited alternatives these days (unfortunately I can't remember their names and they are on my desktop at home so I can't look them up atm)

70c is fine for cpu temp under full load, could be lower but that could also only be the type of cpu you are running. I see it's a haswell i7 so yeah your temps are pretty normal, you could probably get slightly lower temps but haswell's are well known to run up to 80c.

Reason for this is that intel stopped using solder between the lid and processor and now just use thermal paste which is not able to xfer the heat as well resulting in higher cpu temperatures. You can delid the cpu but at the temps you are running I see little to no point.

In a few years if your temps start to raise gradually then you may want to consider it (the paste will dry and be even less effective as dissipating heat)

No just no, I have a fully stable non overclocked 4670k and running prime 95 cause my cpu to heat up to the throttling and emergency shut off temp within 10 minutes, it has now become way too over the top with it's stress test that it is no longer reliable to determine real world conditions.

That's because the newer versions use adaptive voltage if I remember correctly. I should have stated but forgot, use version 26.6.

Aida64 is a good alternative though.

Yeah didn't want to can your suggestion but I couldn't remember off hand what the problem with recent versions were. I agree aida 64 is great, prime 95 pre v26.6 would be goo also

I'm trying a new exhaust fan. I was using a bitfenix spectre and I could barely feel it blow air out. I got a cool master 120 red led fan with an rpm of 2k and so far it's keeping everything a lot cooler. I might upgrade the spectre intakes on this case to the same fan because I'm liking it so far.

It's louder, but it's definitely doing its job and I don't really care for noise I usually have headphones on anywau

Get Noctua fans if you want performance and for them to be quiet.

My personal experience with Spectres were great. My old build had a 3770k OCed to 4.4Ghz and was cooled with EVGA Superclock CPU cooler and a bitfenx spectre fan. Under load I wouldn't go over 65c.

I had 3 spectres and I couldn't even feel them blowing any air. This one though I feel the punch from it and I haven't gone over 65 under load. I think if I get new intake fans I'll be at 60 under load.

Does thermal paste have a break in time by any chance?

It depends on the brand. Artic Silver 5 claims 200 hours which will result in a 2-5c degree drop. Pastes like Noctua NT-H1 don't have one.

Damn, overclocking has gotten weird since the days of the 300a. Thermal paste break-in? Just shoot me.

Yes, the CPU gets throttled some before 90c. More specifically Turbo Boost doesn't run as much as temperatures go up. I think you start losing performance around 40-50C with the big drop happening around 90C. I think 90C is when the base CPU speed is throttled too.

I used arctic silver and it definitely has had a break-in time. Seems like it still is in fact.
